Barry News
September 10, 2021
Thank you to all our parents who signed up this week for parent access to Live School. We jumped from 27% participation to 50%! We will begin reaching out to individual families to help create an account with those not currently signed up. It is a great tool for you to touch base with your student after school on how their day went.

Reminder for PLC Early Release
Just a reminder that we will have our first early dismissal for a district PLC day on Wednesday, September 15th at 12:50 pm.
Platte County Education Foundation Fundraiser - September 8-20
This week, we kicked off our Platte County Education Foundation discount card sales program. Our schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout our District to offer a $15 discount card providing customers with 21 local buy-one-get-one-free offers. In most cases, redeeming only two offers offsets the cost of the card. Proceeds from the card campaign directly benefit your student's school and the Platte County Education Foundation. The Foundation gives back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships. Your student should have brought home an envelope with information and instructions on Wednesday, September 8, and have been instructed to not go "door-to-door," but to offer to relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. Collection dates start on Monday, September 13, and the program wraps up on Monday, September 20. Please consider purchasing a card and supporting our schools! You can also purchase cards online here.

Buses and Road Construction
Road Construction at Hwy 152 and N. Platte Purchase Dr. Starts Tuesday: MODOT will be constructing a diverging diamond interchange at Highway 152 and N. Platte Purchase over the next nine months. Crews will close N. Platte Purchase Dr. between 88th Street and NW Tiffany Springs Parkway beginning Tuesday, September 7 and continuing until Sunday, May 15, 2022. Crews will also close all MO Route 152 ramps at N. Platte Purchase Dr. during construction. Some of the ramps may reopen in November 2021.
This will impact five bus routes in this area, and some timing changes may become necessary as we reroute. We will communicate any changes to affected routes as soon as possible via email.

Academic Lab (Repeat)
We will pay students 2 points in Live School to stay and work on improving by completing homework, missing assignments, retaking assessments, etc. We are also recruiting students to stay and serve as mentors as well. Those students can either earn community service hours or also get paid in Live School.
Please use the Google Form below to sign up your child to get extra help via Academic Lab each time you want them to stay.
Football Game Reminders (Repeat)
5th Grade: Pirate football games are a time for us all to gather and enjoy some fantastic company and great sports. Please remind your students that the football stadium is an extension of the classroom, and appropriate behavior and good sportsmanship are expected. As a reminder, elementary students should be supervised by a parent and with you at all times.
Grades 6-8: As we gear up for our first Friday Night Lights Pirates football game, we are asking that our students sit with their families at the game. Due to our construction, there is not a middle school section for them to sit as a group and therefore, they need to be seated with a parent. We do ask that you don’t drop them off unaccompanied throughout the evening. They can sit with friends, but it needs to also be with a parent. We want our students to be there, be loud, be proud and cheer on their Pirates, but in a way that respects all in attendance.
Live School Introduction (Repeat)
On Friday, student and parent access sheets were sent home with your student(s). I highly encourage you to watch this video (37 minutes) and set up your parent account. Student and parent accounts are accessible via apps on phones, as well as on browsers on a computer/tablet.

Family Needs Assessment
Hello Pirate Families! At the beginning of each school year we ask parents and guardians to fill out our Resource Checklist. This brief questionnaire is your School Social Worker's first and primary way to help you access support services. It also lets us know if you are interested in giving back to your school community. Please do not hesitate to contact your School Social Worker if you have any questions.
