"Welcome Parents and Students to a new year with our Super Second Grade Team. We are expecting nothing less than greatness from this wonderful group students that we are so fortunate to instruct this 2016-17 school year!
Ms. Cherry:
"Welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to have your child in my class! My philosophy for teaching is to always provide a nurturing yet stimulating learning environment, and together we can make this happen. Our first teaching unit will covering personal narrative and story structure. Students will need 2 two-pocket folders and 1 spiral notebook. Looking forward to a great year!"
Mr. Huff:
"Welcome one and all to a great year in 2nd Grade Math! I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to teach our students this great subject. We will explore numerous ways to use and manipulate numbers in the most creative of manners. A composition book will be needed for my class and will be used as an interactive notebook. Our first unit will cover place value, base ten, and graphs. Math is without a doubt my favorite subject, and by the end of the year I'm hoping to have instilled this love of numbers into each one of our students! Ecstatic for the coming year!"
Ms. Lewis:
"Hello Parents and Students! We are going to have a great year in Science! Thanks for sending the science notebooks. Our first unit will be Inquiry and Matter. Many experiments and activities will take place this year in our science class. Excited and ready to get to work!"
Mr. Nicholson:
"Welcome everyone to a new year! Social studies is going to be a fun and exciting way for us to learn and connect to our past, present, and future! Our first unit will be connecting all themes in Social Studies. This is a great chance to discuss history and politics with our students. A composition books is also need for class. Ready and eager to jump into learning this year with our kids!"

Supplies Request:
Each student needs a total of 5 composition notebooks (2 for ELA, 1 for Math, 1 for Science and 1 for Social Studies).
Grammar- Noun- person/place/thing/animal
Writing- Narrative- A personal story
Comprehension Skill- Main idea - What is the passage about?
Math:
- Place Value: 652 (6 Hundreds, 5 tens, 2 ones)
- Rounding to the nearest 10 and hundred (652 to the nearest 10 is 650)
- 3 Digit Computation: Addition and Subtraction
Science: For the month of August we will be studying Heat. The students should be able to answer these questions:
- What is heat?
- How is heat measured?
- How does thermal energy move?
- How is thermal energy used?
Social Studies- The first two weeks will be an overview of the units such as how to deal with conflict and change in a society, how people feelings may influence their decisions, and understanding the government and laws. Then, we will move into learning about Paul Revere who fought for change and independence for the U.S.

Greeting Parents,
Our fifth-grade instructional team is pleased to have your child as a part of our fifth-grade family. We have some wonderful activities planned for this school year. Please make plans to attend our Fifth Grade Parents Meeting on Tuesday, August 16th @ 5:00-6:00 pm to hear about those activities and to share some of your ideas. We look forward to a terrific school year and work with you to ensure your child reaches his or her fullest potential.
