Season of Service
2014
It's Going to be a Happy New Year!
I hope you have had a great Christmas Season and are looking forward to God's great plans for the coming year! My prayer is that 2014 marks a year where the faith community of Sacramento region is characterized by the servanthood of Christ. There's a lot to look forward to as Season of Service starts in just 19 days! You can help us gear up for this season by signing up for Season of Service (if you have not already done so), liking our brand new Facebook page (click here), and sharing with your friends, family, and church community about how they can get involved in Season of Service too!
Stories of Service
If you or your church community have any stories from the past two Seasons of Service, please share them with us by emailing megan@servesacramento.org. We would love to share your story with our participants as we prepare for this year’s season! Here is an extreme home makeover that Restoration Life Church completed in 2012's Season of Service.

Servant Spotlight
Scott Thurmond is the board president of Church Volunteer Network, an organization that partners with and trains churches to serve the poor and hurting in the community. Scott started CVN eight years ago by taking a group of volunteers to serve the elderly at a convalescent home. Since then, CVN has expanded to coordinate 30-40 outreaches each month with between 300 and 1500 volunteers annually at its sites. These outreaches include serving the elderly at convalescent homes, children at affordable housing complexes, residents of mental health facilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Scott is very passionate about sharing the gospel wherever he reaches out because of the high priority Jesus placed on sharing the gospel in his earthly ministry. Scott is working on a Master’s degree in Theology from Fuller and is also a consultant for agencies that serve the homeless. His knowledge about homelessness, passion for sharing the gospel, and skill in mobilizing churches make Scott a great gift to the Serve Sacramento Initiative and Season of Service. We are proud to have him on the team!
