OLVCS Updates
November 6, 2020
Dear Parents,
Can you name the fruit of the Spirit? Ms. Bord's first grade class is learning about the fruit of the Spirit. As St. Paul tells us in Galatians 5:22-23, the fruit of the Spirit is nine qualities or gifts: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Building on this lesson, the 1st grade students presented me with letters of kindness. What a welcome surprise for me! Now I need to think how I, too, can show others the fruit of the Spirit in me.
This is one of many examples of how Our Lady of Victory Catholic School is working each day to fulfill it's mission of advancing Catholic values and academic excellence within a supportive environment that promotes healthy social relationships.
Taking on the heart of Jesus,
Chad Packer, MEd
Principal, OLVCS

Once you complete your training, contact your student's teacher about ways that you can help. Questions? Contact OLV's new coordinator, Mrs. Sandra Lema, at youthprotection@olvcs.org.

Saint Joe's Athletes Head to Hershey for Cross Country Championship
Both the St. Joe's boys and girls teams ran strong at the Class 1A District 6 PIAA championship last Saturday. At this post season event, the St. Joe's competed against about 20 teams for a chance to move on to the PIAA State Championship in Hershey.
For the 2020 season, only the boys and girls teams that places 1st and the top 6 individual runners can move on to the state championship.
On the girls side, the team placed 2nd, despite the fact that all Saint Joe's runners placed in the top 16. Kathleen Simander ran the course in 19 min 45 sec and placed 3rd, earning the the honor of competing the state competition as an individual this weekend. Three of the girls team top 5 runners are OLVCS grads. In the District 6 JV (open) race, Brigid Scanlon (OLVCS alumna) placed 1st!
On the boys side, the team placed 3rd place. Jonah Clark ran the course in 17 min 35 second and placed 5th. Colin Simander ran 17:42 placing 8th. Both Clark and Simander will move on to the state competition this weekend.
For Varsity Cross Country, seven athletes race a distance of 5K for each team, with the top 5 of each team scoring for the team. The Saint Joe's Cross Country teams are coached by Mr. Jayson Jackson and Mr. Dave Carmack.
Saint Joe's boys and girls athletes have made it to the PIAA Cross Country State Championship for the past 9 and 6 years, respectively. The girls team has won the state championship 3 times. Pretty remarkable for a school that is only 10 years old!
Meet Mrs. Cunningham
Mrs. Laura Cunningham joined the Saint Joseph's community 9 years ago as a 9th and 10th grade English teacher. Since that time, she has taught every grade and level of English offered at Saint Joseph's and a variety of business courses. She is the Saint Joe's National Honor Society Adviser and the Director of Marketing.
Mrs. Cunningham enjoys getting to know her students. “I love the fact that I can teach to my students. I learn about their individual strengths and weaknesses, and as a result can tailor my curriculum each year to them.” In her spare time, Mrs. Cunningham enjoys doing things outdoors with her husband, Cory, and her two kids, Crew (5) and Kinsley (3).
