Christ Child Academy Newsletter
November 14, 2019
From the Desk of Mr. Ruedinger
Quarter 1 report cards will be sent home today with the middle school students. Grades 1–5 reports will be in the Carrier. Kindergarten and preschool will not have reports until semester 1 is over. Please keep your copy of the report card and return the signed envelope to the school office as soon as possible.
Congratulations to all the middle school students who have achieved the Academic Honor Roll for the 1st Quarter. This quarter, 85.7% of the middle school students earned honor roll! Please see the Honor Roll insert in the carrier. Keep up the great work, students!
Last evening, our CCA second graders, along with the Tri-Parish second graders, received the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Ss. Cyril & Methodius. Please keep them in your prayers as they take the next step towards First Communion in the spring.
As the temperatures drop, I wanted to remind parents to make sure children are prepared for the weather. Our policy is to go outside each recess unless the AccuWeather app RealFeel temp is below "0". Only students with snow pants AND winter boots may play on the grass or playground equipment with snow on the ground. Otherwise, students must stay on the blacktop portion of the playground during recess.
ALL students in 4K-8th grade should be wearing a winter coat each day. Students in grades K-5 go outside for recess three times a day. All middle school students go outside for 20 minutes each day for lunch recess.

Parenting in the 21st Century
Parenting and the Culture of Disrespect
I came across a short interview of a pediatrician who has noticed changes in children’s behavior over the past several decades. Most notably, he talked about children’s lack of respect, and how permissive parenting and our media culture has promoted it.
Standards Based Grading
During this school year, Christ Child Academy will be transitioning from a traditional grading system to standards based grading system, which will go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has strongly recommended that all schools move to this reporting framework.
As we proceed through this transition over the next year, please know that our goal of academic excellence remains our priority. These "best practices" will enable parents to fully understand where their child is academically while at the same time motivating students to become life-learners.
The Parenting Guide to Standards Based Grading will provide valuable insight during this transition. Additional information will be coming in the following weeks.

2018-2019 Annual Fund Report
CCA Annual Fund
The 2019 CCA Annual Fund has begun. Please support our school and share the link below often.
Your generous gift to the Christ Child Academy Annual Fund makes a difference in the lives of our students. The funds raised will provide excellent academic and athletic programs, curriculum materials, and technology for both the students and staff; it will ensure the ability to carry out our school’s mission on a daily basis. Your gift will also enable us to maintain affordable tuition for all families.
You will be receiving an Annual Fund Contribution Form in the mail in November to donate or you may visit our online site at the link below. Feel free to share this link with all your friends and family via social media.
We appreciate your support and you may donate to this fund until June 30, 2020.
St. Peter Claver Food Pantry Drive
The Student Service Council is sponsoring our annual November Food Drive for the St. Peter Claver Food Pantry. We will begin next week by collecting canned goods. Please see the schedule below. Collection boxes will be in each classroom. Thank you for helping us reach out to families in need.
During the week of November 11, we will be collecting boxed items such as cereal, rice, noodles, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, jam, boxes of Jell-O, macaroni, pudding, crackers, cookies, and fruit or vegetable juices.
During the week of November 18, we will be collecting personal care items such as shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, family size bars of soap, boxes of tissue, and toilet tissue.
All donations will be greatly appreciated! There will be collection boxes in each classroom.
WINTER EXTRAVAGANZA 2020
Winter Extravaganza is set for Saturday, February 22, 2020 and will be held at the Village at 170, Kohler. We hope that everyone has this date marked on their calendars and are planning to attend. The event is open to the public, so gather your friends and family and get ready for a good time! We are looking for some additional people to join our planning committee. If you are interested, please email the Development Director at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Invitations and Reservation forms will be sent home in the next carrier.
We are also looking for parents to assist the teaching staff in creating one of a kind "baskets" for our auction. Each grade will be creating a personalized themed basket and these parents would be in charge of assisting with ideas, gathering items, ordering supplies, setting up personalization time with the teacher, etc. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, sign up before November 15th.
