REIMBURSEMENT PLAN FOR LITTLE MERMAID TICKETS

If you purchased tickets for performances of "The Little Mermaid" that were cancelled last March and would like to be reimbursed, please mark your calendars for Monday, October 19th, and Tuesday, October 20th. We will gladly reimburse your money on those dates before school from 8:10-8:45am and again after school from 3:15-4:00pm. If you have a scheduling conflict, please contact Natalie Hunter or Jodi Mulitalo directly to obtain reimbursement. Please bring your tickets with you as you will need them to receive your money. If you would prefer to donate your ticket purchase to the school, we appreciate your donation and will be pooling it into the PTA School Fund for activities/events for the kids this year. Thank you for all of those who have helped with any aspect of this play. We have an amazing community of volunteers and helpers at our school.

UPDATED Box Tops for Education Program

Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip and send them to school. Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for your school. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date. Physical Box Tops Fall deadline is Thursday, October 29 ! Please return them to school in a ziploc or taped to a paper by this date!

Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting

to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.

If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still

worth 10¢ each for your school. The app will find participating products purchased at any

store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online.

REFLECTIONS ENTRIES DUE OCTOBER 20TH

Submit Online: https://www.utahpta.org/ref

2020 has been a "one of a kind" year, full of new opportunities, challenges and experiences. The Reflections Theme for this year is "I Matter Because..." What a great opportunity for our kids to share with us what they have learned this year regarding why they matter. Kids are allowed to submit entries in the following categories - Dance Choreography, Film Production (where they do all of the filming), Literature, Music Composition, Photography, 2D or 3D Visual Art. Although a treasure to us all, we would love to have the kids at Reading show us why they matter.

If students from Reading are interested in submitting a Reflections Entry, please visit https://www.utahpta.org/ref. All submissions will be submitted online from the comfort of your own home or wherever you have internet access :) and no longer will have to be physically turned into the school. If you have any problems or need additional help with submitting, please contact Jodi Mulitalo at jodi.mulitalo@gmail.com. I am looking forward to seeing the great talent we have at Reading!

2020-2021 Reflections Call for Entries

State announces updates to quarantine protocol

The state has announced an update to school quarantine protocols. In a Thursday email from Sydnee Dickson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, she wrote:

At the request of many of our School Superintendents and Charter Directors, a school medical advisory group met and recommended adjustments to the 14-day quarantine. The Utah Dept. of Health, under the direction of Governor Herbert, has approved the attached Low Risk Test and Return guidance. The medical experts on the advisory group indicate that this aligns with the best medical practice of adjusting the intensity of intervention based on risk and consequences of overprescribing an intervention.

Key points aligned with this practice are:

  • Masks are effective at preventing transmission in classroom settings
  • This only applies to mask on mask exposure
  • Only applies to exposures that occurred in school
  • % of individuals who will develop symptoms do so on:
    o Day 7 -75%,
    o Day 9 - 90%
    o Day 11- 95%
o Testing picks up positive cases two days before symptoms onset; therefore, testing on day 7 means there is less than a 10% chance that an individual will contract after day 7
  • This is for individual exposures, and does not pertain to the threshold recommendations for classroom or school virtual learning

Your local health officers were instrumental in crafting and supporting this update and are ready and willing to assist. The Rapid tests (Abbot BinaxNOW) are still being distributed and your Local Health Organization will likely be the best source to know when and where the tests can be accessed. The COVID-19 School Manual will be updated to reflect this change but the change takes effect immediately. We hope this updated guidance will both be an incentive for improved classroom mask wearing behaviors and expedite students getting back into school safely. Additional details are available here. At this point, times and locations of when and where these tests will be available have yet to be finalized.
