Indian Knoll Elementary

Letter from the Principal

IKES Families,

Fall is in the air and I hope you were able to spend fall break doing something special with your family. Our PTA is fully committed to a strong partnership with IKES and works collaboratively with the school staff to accomplish goals that positively impact our students. Please support them with your participation in PTA membership, school events, and fundraisers.

Our students have embraced their new Bird Houses this year and are working collaboratively to make good choices and earn DoJo points for themselves and their house. Our first Bird House Meeting will take place virtually on Friday, October 23, 2020! We will name our PRIDE OF THE FLOCK (1 student per class), PRIDE OF THE NEST (1 student per house), and PRIDE OF THE KNOLL (1 student per school).

Our 2020-2021 School Improvement Plan is complete, and our academic goals are to improve both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math scores. We have many school incentives for both goals and are laser focused on raising student achievement in a warm and nurturing environment. The research shows that reading is the one skill that positively impacts overall student achievement in all areas of the curriculum. You can partner with your child’s teacher by encouraging pleasure reading. This will build comprehension skills, increase student vocabulary and provide a solid foundation for written expression.

Whether you are learning digitally or face to face, we appreciate your partnership and look forward to a very successful school year.

Kim Cerasoli

Employee of the Month

Congratulations to Mrs. Morgann Anderson

Congratulations to 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Morgann Anderson who is our September Employee of the Month! Mrs. Anderson exemplifies the words "kindness and respect." Her classroom has a family feel and it is evident in the support her students show each other. Morgann is a great communicator and she values Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Overall, her students appreciate the engaging instruction and love she provides them every day! We are excited that she is representing our school this month.

A Note of Encouragement from your IKES PTA....

Welcome back, Firebirds! Whether your child is a face to face learner or digitally learning, we want to keep you in touch with all things PTA! As we prepare to get this year started, we are aware that our current situation is constantly evolving. We want you to know that we are united with you as parents of students at IKES and share a desire to create and maintain a strong and supportive community for all of our students, staff, and families. We want to offer a fun and exciting year, while maintaining the safety and well-being of our IKES community. While we usually plan our events well in advance of the start of school, this year, our approach will be a little different. We will work to minimize changes to our event calendar and maximize the efficient use of our funds towards projects that benefit our entire community. We will be planning digital events and activities to keep all our students, both in person and digital learners, as engaged and involved as possible. Please stay tuned for updates each month!

Spotlight on Kindness ~ Meet Ryan Wexler

Trying new things is ambitious, but can also be a little intimidating! It helps when good friends and fellow Firebirds are not only willing, but volunteer to step in and lend a hand. That's just what 4th grade student, Ryan Wexler did. As an experienced Techno Wizard from IKES After-School Techno Wizards Club, Ryan offered to help 3rd graders, Eli Kaufman and Grayson Smith. Ryan knew that Eli and Grayson were nervous about joining Techno Wizards as 3rd graders, especially since it would be in a digital format. Ryan said that he'd help them and afterwards, that it was a lot of fun!

Help us spread some love by sharing wonderful acts of kindness that you do or experience! Let's celebrate compassion together and inspire each other to pay it forward! Please send pictures or stories of your acts of kindness to Nikki Chambley at

Big picture

It's a Scarecrow Invasion!

IKES PTA has entered into the City of Canton's Service League Scarecrow Invasion Contest. This year's theme is "Inclusion." We can't think of a better way to represent inclusion than by showcasing all of those who make up the greatest school district around. Stop by the old courthouse in Downtown Canton within the next two weeks to cast your vote for the best scarecrow (which is definitely Fuji's fall festive friend!). QR codes are posted in front of each scarecrow! It's just one more incredible way to support your school and PTA!

Spirit Rock Painting:

We have had several parents and/ or family members inquire about hiring someone to paint the spirit rock for their special event. We want to make this a little easier by listing some of those individuals who offer these services. This information can be found in the FAQ document attached to the spirit rock email that will be sent out by Mrs. Cerasoli. These include Tay's Paints and Elisha Hyde. Both of these individuals can be found on Facebook. We will be updating our website soon with this new information.

**Please remember that these services are not affiliated with IKES PTA and will require a separate, additional payment to the artist. Before you book any paint services, please be sure you have reserved and paid your rock reservation with IKES PTA.
