Highland High School- March 2019

Juniors- SAT Pre-Bubble In

Juniors will be completing the Pre-Bubble In portion of the SAT answer sheet on March 26 or 27th. At this time students will enter codes for up to 4 colleges, universities or scholarship opportunities where they would like their scores sent for free. Please talk to your students about where they should send their scores. Scores sent later will cost about $15 per send.

Juniors: SAT Test April 9th

Current Juniors will be participating in the IL State Funded SAT test on April 9th. This is a graduation requirement and will be given at HHS during the school day. Students may utilize Khan Academy for test prep. Colleges will accept SAT scores from this test date as part of your college application.

Sophomores and Freshman: PSAT Testing

Freshman and Sophomore students will be participating in the PSAT 9 or PSAT 10 on April 9th during State testing. Students are reminded to be on time, bring non-mechanical number 2 pencils and a calculator on test day. Room assignments will be posted on the school counselors window and in the English wing soon. Test results will be available through a students college board account. These can be created at any time at collegeboard.org. Please be sure to use the same address you enter on your answer sheet as when you create your account. This is how college board will link scores.

$$$ Scholarships- Deadlines Approaching

There are lots of opportunities for students to get money to help pay for college. Applications are available in the School Counselors office. FTT is a great time to pop in and see what's available.

It is the STUDENT'S responsibility to research scholarships they are eligible for and complete the applications on time.

Illinois Career Information System

https://ilcis.intocareers.org is a great website to start your career and college search.

1. Select the IL Resident Folder on the bottom right

2. Click "CIS HS/COLLEGE"

2. Enter your city and zipcode under IL residents

3. Hover over the "Assessments" folder and use any of the tools under "how do my interests relate to occupations" on the right hand side


There are a lot of fun tools including a reality check and skills inventories available on this website.

This event is used to promote the science of welding technology, showcase the latest in equipment, safety apparel, post-weld testing equipment, plasma cutting, laser welding, positioning equipment, and mechanical cutting systems. Factory representatives will be on hand to provide live demonstrations and offer technical expertise.

SWIC Dual Credit

Some courses at HHS allow students to earn credit at SouthWestern Illinois College- this does not mean that a student has to go there- only they have credit that may transfer. For additional information please check: http://www.swic.edu/dual-credit/

SLU 1818 Dual Credit

AP Chemistry and AP Language and Composition give students additional opportunities for college credit. Students may choose to enroll in the SLU 1818 dual credit program and pay for SLU college credit for these courses. This credit may transfer to other institutions. Students in these courses may also chose to take the AP college board exam in May to earn credit as well.

ACT Testing- Juniors

Students may want to consider taking the ACT on a National Test date. They must sign up for a National Test date so scores are ready when students apply for college their senior year. For testing dates, registration deadlines, more information and to sign up visit http://www.actstudent.org


If you can't afford the registration fee for the ACT or ACT with writing, you may be eligible for an ACT fee waiver. See your school counselor for additional information.

Senior Exit Interviews

School Counselors will be meeting with Seniors in Mid-April to complete their exit interview. At this meeting seniors will report plans for after high school and complete their final transcript request. Students will also report scholarships and money received.
