Scholarship Tips
- Think of ways to shrink the applicant pool. Though full-ride awards sound awesome, the applicant pools are usually very large. Think of what makes you unique and search for scholarships focused on that quality. You'll be surprised: tall people, vegetarians, I like to make clothes out of duct tape, parent's employer, religious organization, etc.
- Order official transcripts through Parchment. If an official transcript is required, order it through your Parchment account. Stop in the Registrar's office (LST A-F) to talk with Mrs. Lentz or watch this instructional video if you need help. Unofficial transcripts can be downloaded in your Parchment dashboard.
- Ask teachers for recommendation letters if needed. If a teacher wrote a recommendation letter for your college application, they can often edit it to use for scholarships. Because you likely waived your right to see it, they can give it to the CRC, and we will send it directly to your scholarship review committee.
- Scholarship search engines can help you research. Many national databases link to the same scholarships, so pick one or two databases and work in those. Enter as much profile information as you're comfortable sharing and let the engines help match you to scholarships. Visit the D128 Scholarship Database for examples of scholarship databases.
- The CRC can mail paper scholarship applications. Bring all materials to the CRC at least a week before the due date, allowing time for mail to be delivered.
