What's Going On In The World Of Walton's Spanish Classes

Library Game Day

Monthly the Spanish classes within the World Language department have a cross-sectional, cross-level, and cross-program Library Game Day. The purpose of this Game Day is to build fluency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the Target Language (Spanish). Having this cross-sectional time allows students to interact not only in a more comfortable environment but with students of various ability as well.


We are seeking Spanish-speaking volunteers to serve as conversation partners once a month. This is an opportunity to connect with the community as well help our students speak Spanish. We will meet in the library during the morning and afternoon classes. Materials and topics will be provided by the teacher.


Fall Dates: Oct 19th, Nov 16th

Spring Dates: Jan 17th, Feb 16th, Mar 7th, April 19th, May 17th


We need your help for any of the following times:

Morning shift 9:40 - 12:25

  • 2nd period 9:40 – 10:35
  • 3rd period 10:40 – 11:30
  • 4th Period 11:35 - 12:25
Afternoon shift 1:20 - 4:00
  • 5th period 1:20 – 2:10
  • 6th period 2:15 – 3:05
  • 7th period 3:10 – 4:00

Genius Hour Project

This year I would like to introduce Genius Hour. Genius Hour, stems from Google, who allows it’s engineers to spend 20% of their time to work on any pet project that they want. The idea is very simple. Allow people to work on something that interests them, and productivity will go up. For the classroom, Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school.

Engaged Classroom

This year I have the amazing opportunity to have the Engaged Classroom. I would like to express my deepest gratitude as it has been the work of our community to adopt such an amazing learning experience for our students. Below is a brief explanation of what is the Engaged Classroom.


Engaged classroom is compiled of three main focuses:
  • The Blueprint for Learning which takes into account our district profile of a learner when planning our classroom experiences and focuses on providing authentic learning experiences for all students.

  • Technology will be available every day to students, but not necessarily used every day.

  • The physical learning environment is also considered in the fact that we now have more flexible furniture to allow different classroom set ups.
