Go Fourth!
News & Tidbits from 4th Grade at Holy Rosary School
December 7, 2015
I trust you all had a lovely Thanksgiving break. Ours was wonderful, outside of a flu bug that has been knocking my kids out one at a time. I know some of you have been fighting that same battle; I'm sorry.
It's hard to believe that Christmas Break is looming just around the corner. We have a busy (almost) two weeks left. Today we talked about St. Nicholas in honor of his Feast Day yesterday. We were even surprised by a visit, as evidenced by the treats left in our shoes that were set out in the hall.
We have Mass this week on Tuesday at 12:00, for the Immaculate Conception. On Thursday at our usual 9:00am time, will be Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe. Please have all students bring a flower to honor her at Mass on Thursday.
This week in Math: We're continuing to PRACTICE, PRACTCE, PRACTICE our multiplication tables. I am by no means satisfied with the progress yet. I want the whole class to accurately solve 100 problems In under 5 minutes. We are doing daily time tests to that end. At this point one student can hit that target. Please continue to encourage your child in daily practice and help quiz them as well. This will all help to equip the kids as we head into our new chapter; whole Number Multiplication and Division.
Language Arts: our story this week is a play so our genre is drama. We are talking about fragments, run on sentences and how to avoid them. We will soon be planning, pre-writing, and writing our own Fictional Narrative.
Thursday, December 17th is our school Christmas Program. Fourth grade is participating by singing We Three Kings. Everyone should come dressed for caroling; scarves, hats and mittens In Christmas colors will be great. Our three wise men will be Autumn, Daniel and Peter. Please send them in an appropriately regal costume; turbaned or crowned, in royal robes and bearing beautiful gifts. If you need help, please see me I, have a small stash of cord that could be for belts, and some cloth that might work as well.
Our second class party will be the last day of school before Christmas Break. The fourth graders have requested that we have a 'Secret Santa' gift exchange. We will draw names this week, if your child would like to participate. I would also ask that you send some- thing delicious to share at lunch in the cafeteria, with our class and others. Along with the sharing of food in a posada format (if you are familiar with that), there will be surprises upstairs as well. After lunch, we will head downstairs for our party and gift exchange.
I will be submitting our class' Scholastic Order in the morning. If you wanted to order and forgot, this is your chance to send it in. :)
It's too late- again! Goodnight.
Blessings to you and your family,
Mrs. Marthie Ramos
