Starr Elementary
Welcome Back!
Dear Families,
There are a million reasons #starrshines. We are looking forward to an incredible year at Starr Elementary and to working with your family. Here are a few updates to programming at Starr Elementary:
Our teachers traveled all over the state this summer seeking professional development and training. Your student will benefit tremendously from educators that are highly trained in trauma-informed care, technology integration and reading best-practices!
Starr is the proud recipient of a grant for the 2018-2019 school year that has allowed our building to purchase many additional leveled readers and LLI kits to support high-quality literacy instruction. Check out the video below to learn more about how to support literacy in your home!
Once again Starr has been selected to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. A comprehensive fact sheet with additional information is available HERE.
Starr Elementary is proud to announce we will be using Classroom DOJO school wide beginning this year. This interactive communication tool allows you to monitor your students progress through the day and speak with teachers concerning progress. Teachers will distribute additional information on back to school night.
Starr Elementary is truly a community of learners, working daily to educate all students while showing empathy and understanding. More importantly, Starr strives every day to live its mission..."Preparing students for their future, not our past," by teaching 21st century skills and standards through academics, respect, and responsibility.
Welcome back Coyotes, we are so thrilled you are here!
Sincerely,
Starr Faculty and Staff

General Expectations and Procedures
Students need to be in class and ready to begin their daily activities at 7:50. Our dismissal time is 2:40 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We dismiss at 1:40 on Tuesday. Unless it is an absolute emergency transportation changes cannot be made after 2 on M,W,TH, F or after 1:10 on Tues. We need for all our students to be here daily and on time. Attendance is important at Starr. Please schedule all appointments after school hours.
The only entrance that will be accessible throughout the school day will be the front door at 301 North 19th Street. This door will be locked for security purposes. Please press the door bell and we will let you in. All other doors will remain locked for security reasons. All visitors are to report to the office and will be asked to sign in, sign out and wear a visitor’s badge while in the building.
Breakfast will be served from 7:15-7:45.
Please make sure to complete a police background check if you are interested in doing volunteer work for Starr. This must be completed every year.
Safety is a priority at Starr. During drop off and dismissal we ask that all parents and guardians wait outside the main doors to pick up their students and to do their goodbyes. Starr faculty and staff will be waiting each morning to welcome your student and teachers will accompany students through dismissal each day. When we have a two-hour delay, school will start at 9:50. You can access school closings/delays by going to the Richmond Community Schools web site, listening to the radio, or watching television.
