Kindergarten Transition for Students with Preschool IEPs
Then in February, families who have a child with a preschool IEP are invited to an individual meeting to discuss each child's current IEP, progress, and recommendations moving into Kindergarten. It is very important that families attend this meeting and give input.
Parents have multiple options and will sign an intent to register that allows us to move forward with what the parent believes they are likely choosing for their child for the next school year. Families have the following options:
1. Sending their child (must be 5 years old by 9/1/2023) on to Kindergarten. If this option is chosen the team will discuss whether or not an evaluation going into Kindergarten is appropriate so that services can follow the child if the child qualifies.
2. Remaining in preschool an additional year. Students may remain in preschool for another year if the family wishes. This can be for a variety of reasons. The Preschool Early Intervention staff at the transition meeting will let you know what your child's teachers/therapists recommendations are.
We look forward to seeing you at these individual transition meetings so that we can ensure your child's transition to Kindergarten is smooth.
