Green Meadow Update

Preschool News
Dear Families and Friends,
This week we will be learning all about pumpkins – how they grow, what they are used for, and what's inside! We will be learning some new songs and poems about pumpkins as well. Even though Halloween isn’t being celebrated in the traditional sense this year, I’m sure it will be a topic of conversation throughout the week! This coming week we will be reading a favorite book called Spookley the Square Pumpkin and we will come to realize that people, like pumpkins, are the same in some ways and very different in others!

Important information and reminders: Family Quilt square reminder! Our quilt is coming together! As soon as you are able please send in your square so we can add it to the wall! Date change! Wednesday morning, October 27th – Preschool Autumn Walk (this replaces the Halloween parade that we have held in the past – no costumes necessary!) Preschool students have been working on making fall themed outfits to wear in their art centers. We will walk from our classrooms out the front door of the building, around the bus loop, and back to our classrooms. Families and friends are invited to stay at school after student drop-off to take photos and cheer our preschoolers on as they walk around the bus loop! We will aim to begin our walk by 8:50. Afternoon friends are invited to come to school for the walk that morning if possible! In the event of rain (which seems likely at this point) we hope to be able to have our parade in the cafeteria. Details to follow as the date gets closer! Thursday, November 11th – Veteran’s Day – no school November 24th – 26th – Thanksgiving break – no school You will be receiving a sign-up genius email this week to sign-up for a parent conference on December 3rd if you would like one. Pumpkin hunt – We will be going on a pumpkin hunt in the courtyard on Monday. Thank you to the PTO for donating soooo many pumpkins to Green Meadow!
Kindergarten Spanish Immersion News
I hope this email finds you well. Here is what we have been working on in our classroom this week:
Spanish Language Arts: Letter U, we learned to sound it out, write it, and vocabulary that starts with that letter. The vocabulary we learned this week: Urraca (magpie), uniforme (uniform), unicornio (unicorn), uña (nail), uno (one), uvas (grapes).
Sight word of the week: es (is)
Math: We started chapter 2. In this chapter, students will learn to build and compare sets to help them compare numbers using the words Igual que (same as) mayor que (greater than) and menor que (less than). Today, they took a practice sheet home where they need to count the sets and circle the one that is greater.
Science: This week, we observed our tree and discussed what scientists do. Students drew a picture of our tree based on their observations, we discussed how an artist could use their imagination when drawing a picture, but scientists draw based on what they observe.
Important Information:
The Green Meadow PTO has generously donated pumpkins for each of our PreK- 2 students. These pumpkins will be used for our Green Meadow pumpkin patch. Students will be decorating the pumpkins which will later be displayed at the school. Once the event is over, students will be taking their pumpkins home. On Monday, October 25, each student will get to choose one pumpkin to explore and decorate.
Autumn Walk:
Students in grades K-3 will be having their walk on Thursday, October 28th at 8:40 am with a rain date of Friday, October 29th.
We invite all students to come dressed in their favorite autumn costume. Please note that all costumes must be school-appropriate and may not contain scary masks, knives, swords, blood etc. We recommend that students dress as their favorite book character, sports hero, or favorite historical character etc. Costumes are optional.
Kindergarten students:
Please have your child wear their clothes under their costume to avoid having to fully change students following the walk
Please bring a bag (in addition to your school bag) to put costumes and accessories in following the walk
All families are invited to attend our Autumn Walk. We hope to see you soon!
Gracias,
Sra. Galdamez y Sra. Castillo
