Mable Woolsey Weekly Update

Issue #13 November 22, 2021

Looking for Ideas for Teacher/Staff Gifts? Click Here!

Our PTO had each staff member fill out their favorite things. We hope this helps you if you choose to get a staff member a token of appreciation. Thank you!

Please take a moment to answer this question on our district survey. As a community, would you be interested in the Health Department holding a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in one of our facilities? The Knox County Health Department will run it, we will have no contact with the clinic.

Thankful Notes to the Staff

As the Mable Woolsey Elementary principal, I am grateful and thankful for all the staff members who are part of our school. Would you like to send a special "thank you" to one of our staff members? Please take a moment to fill this in. They will be shared with the staff members before we leave for Thanksgiving break so please have them done by November 19st! https://forms.gle/fjxZUKF8NXrD6RwP9

Extended Absence for our Counselor

Our school counselor, Mrs. Ericson, has been and will continue to be out on a leave. We know that some of our students used her to support behavioral and emotional needs. To fill this need, we have hired a substitute, Mrs. Miyler (student teacher in Mrs. Steele's 1st grade class), that can cover Mrs. Keever, our lead teacher's classroom should assistance be needed with a student in crisis. When not serving in that capacity, she will be able to deliver character education lessons to classrooms or to groups of students. She will also be able to cover unfilled positions when they arise.

We will use the character education program, Character Strong - Purposeful People. This is the same program that Knoxville Junior High implemented not long ago. We chose this so we could provide continuity between the two levels. There are 10 pillars to the program: courage, perseverance, honesty, respect, gratitude, kindness, responsibility, cooperation, creativity, and empathy. There is a family component as well that includes a letter home that has conversation starters, simple activities, and Family character challenges related to the monthly trait. We know that this bridge is one of the most important ones to build! Speaking a common language between school and home and equipping families with the tools to engage in these meaningful (and sometimes tough!) conversations is critical for sustainable change. Recess in the Winter at Mable Woolsey

Students receive 2 recesses per day (one 20 minute recess after lunch and one 15 minute recess at another time in the day). We will go outside for recess as long as the temperature is above 15 degrees. Please make sure students have snowpants, boots, gloves, hats, and a warm coat. It will also be helpful if you can label all items that the students bring in. If you need assistance with these items, let us know.
