Featuring News from High Five, Xpress, and Community Education
Welcome...
to the new and improved Spooner Area Schools Community Education department newsletter. The goal of this newsletter is to combine all news and information about Spooner Elementary School's High Five program, Spooner Middle School's Xpress program and Spooner Community Education program into one source.
Here in the Spooner Schools, we aim to inspire all to DREAM, BELIEVE, and ACHIEVE; whether in our before and after-school programs or our community learning opportunities, we value all and hope to nurture in each person a desire to achieve their maximum potential. By doing this, we believe they will have a successful future.
There's still room to hop on the train! We have openings in many grade levels in the High Five Program and space in some of the clubs in our Xpress program. In addition, we continue to develop our community education program which will begin in the Winter of 2024. We look forward to the chance to engineer a program aimed at meeting the needs of our community.
It's a great day to be a Rail! ALL ABOARD as we support the Vision Mission and Values of the Spooner Area Schools!

Creepy Carrots
Each Wednesday 1st graders meet with Ms. Larson from the Spooner Memorial Library to read new stories and create crafts and do corresponding activities. Today the story was Creepy Carrots, where vegetables come to life and stalk an unsuspecting hungry bunny named Jasper. Here using Legos they recreated scenes from the book.

Spooner Middle School Xpress
This year, approximately 107 Middle School students from the Spooner area gather before and after school every week to learn a new skill, get their hearts pumping and develop their leadership and interpersonal skills. Thanks to volunteers from the community, local teachers and funding from a 21st Century Community Learning grant, 17 different clubs are available to students.
Monday through Thursday, you will find students working on their fitness skills or dabbling in the creative arts while others are learning the strategies and rules of a chess game. Delicious treats are made in the Spooner Middle School kitchen by young chefs who are applying their math skills as they learn to read recipes. Some students are acquiring service learning skills outside of the classroom as they care for animals at the Washburn County Humane Society.
We are grateful for these opportunities made possible by our 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. Meeting the needs of our area students and addressing their academic, social, creative, emotional, and curiosity needs is our goal.
If you have a middle schooler interested in joining a club, register on-line at https://spooner.revtrak.net/.
