Our 5th graders had the time of their lives at Pine Cove learning and having new experiences! We are so impressed with how our students represented themselves, their families and our school! It was a pleasure to interact with and get to better know our chaperones! A huge thank you to all of you that joined us at Pine Cove!

Please Read - Carpool in Cold Weather
Winter is here and it is getting colder in the mornings, so the morning carpool line has gotten longer. We ask that you please plan accordingly. You can drop off in the carpool line starting at 7:10 am. Leaving home early is the best way to ensure that your student is here on time. Students should be in their class ready for the day when the bell rings at 7:45 am. Students will be marked tardy if they are not in the building by 7:45 am.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Please Read - Drop-off Safety
Classroom Winter Parties Pre-Registration
Please follow the link below and submit the RSVP form if you are planning to attend the Classroom Winter Parties at Norris on Friday, December 15th at 1:30 pm.
- The DEADLINE to RSVP for the Class Parties is WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13th at 3:00 pm. If you miss the deadline and still wish to attend the parties, you will be asked to sign in at the front office. This process is more time consuming and there will be a long line. Photo ID required!

*Important Note: only names that are given to the PTA Room Parent Coordinator by the class Room Parents in advance will be given volunteer badges and allowed back into the classrooms early. These parents will need to have completed a background check. Thank you for your understanding.

Character Lab and Guidance:
This week, we wrapped up gratitude with 3-5th grade. Students got to explore the many ways to express gratitude. We focused on writing thank you cards and really digging into why we want to give thanks. Below is a recap of the guidance lessons done the past 2 weeks.
- Kindergarten: Students will reflect upon the meaning of gratitude and explore what they are grateful for. Your kindergartener will enjoy playing the Gratitude Color Game, and creating a “Grateful Heart” to show what they are most thankful for.
- 1st and 2nd Grade: The 1st and 2nd graders will play the Gratitude Color Game and explore the many areas of life that they are thankful for. Students will get the opportunity to reflect upon what they are most thankful for and write a note to express their gratitude.
- 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade: The upper grade students will play the Gratitude Card Game in groups. Students will identify various aspects of their life that they are thankful for as well as hearing what their peers are thankful for. Students will reflect upon their gratitude and express it in a thank you card to someone who they are thankful for.
Parent Challenge: Have your child share their thanks and gratitude to those who thought of them, for gifts they have received (packaged or not). There are many sites that offer free printable thank you cards. Google “free printable thank you cards for kids” and you will find some great templates. Don’t forget, it is always fun to create your own card with good ol’ crayons and love!
1st Grade CogAT Testing Information:
It is a policy of the Frisco Independent School District that all first grade students take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). This is a standardized test that measures a student’s ability to think and solve verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal problems. The CogAT will be administered to first grade students on the mornings of January 16th, 17th, and 18th.
Each testing period will last approximately an hour. Please try to plan any doctor/dental appointments in the afternoon on these days. Students who are absent on these days will be given the opportunity to make up missed tests starting on January 19th 2018 and ending January 25th 2018.
Results from the testing will be reported to parents via email from our Frisco ISD testing administrators. You can help your child prepare by making sure they get plenty of sleep the night before testing, and that they eat a good breakfast in the morning. As always, your involvement in your child’s education does make a difference!
A hard copy of this information was sent home yesterday in your child’s Thursday folder.

Counselor Update
Earlier this year, we taught all students the difference between bullying vs. conflict. We are going to review these differences and how to respond to them during classroom meetings, which happen every morning. Included in this post is a poster we use to show students the difference. Feel free to use the poster below at home with your children or as a reference to what is being taught here at school.
