Just a Note
Welcome back to school! We hope that everyone had a wonderful winter break. We are so glad to be back and are already working hard.
Language Arts
We are beginning to again focus on non-fiction texts. We will be pulling in texts that support our STEAM focus of biomes.
Continue to support your child's reading habits by practicing reading and writing their high frequency words and reading their little books each night.
Math
We are well on our way through unit 5. Unit 5 is a large, meaty unit with many crucial skills. It will take us the rest of the way through this quarter. Please be practicing the following concepts at home.
Unit 5 brings us several new skills as well as reviews skills previously learned. We will learn how to add 3-addends, noting that the order doesn't matter. We will also explain the meaning of the equal sign and practice making two sides of an equation equal. We will begin looking for missing addends and solving word problems with unknowns in all positions.
Science, Social Studies, and the Arts

Thank you for sending in headphones for your child! Please check with your child to see if their headphones are still in working order. If your child does not have a set of headphones at school, please send a pair with them that is labeled with their name. We use headphones every day during our daily 5 and math rotations. You can pick up a pair for a bargain at the Dollar Tree, Target, or 5 Below.
Please keep a change of clothes in your child's backpack.
The weather is beginning to become cooler and our classrooms can be chilly. Please send a sweater or sweatshirt with your child. Please be aware that our playground is very cold during the winter. Be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for outside play (coat, hat, gloves). We play outside as long as the temperature is above 20 degrees factoring in the wind chill.
If your child has a change of transportation at dismissal time, please email springridge.es@fcps.org or call the front office by 3:15 pm. Do not email your child's teacher. Thank you!
