La Mesa Weekly Update
September 9, 2018
Hello La Mesa Families,
Por favor, desplácese hacia abajo para seleccionar español.
Thank you for the great turn out at Back to School Night this week. We hope you enjoyed meeting your child's teachers. We were so happy to have so many parents join us for the evening.
We appreciate your ongoing support. Please let us know if there is any way we can further support your child.
Sincerely,
Michele Krantz
Principal
District-wide Minimum Day, Thursday September 13th. Students Released at 12:45
Skateboards, Scooters, and Bicycles
We are considering discontinuing students having scooters and skateboards on campus. Far too many are not wearing helmets, which is both a state law and a school rule.
Students found without a helmet will turn over their scooter, bike or skateboard. We will release them to parents or to the student if they produce a helmet the next day. Repeat offenders will lose the privilege of having these items on campus.
Many students are not following the expectation of not riding on campus or through crowds of people. We get daily reports of students on scooters and skateboards going into traffic down May Way and on via Princessa. We receive calls daily reporting this very dangerous behavior.
The safety of our students is a priority.
Parent Advisory Council Meeting THIS TUESDAY!
Please join us. We have 1,247 families. Let’s get 50 parents at this meeting. This is your opportunity to engage with administration.
Welcome Back Student Celebration Event (the Dance)
It will take place outside in the Quad on Friday, September 14th, 4-7 pm
Please note the end time of 7:00 pm. Our staff volunteers to supervise this event. Please plan your pickup promptly at 7:00. You should be waiting for your children, your children should not be waiting for you. Please allow our staff to get home to their own families once the event is over. We appreciate the support.
All students will need to get a ticket at the ASB window. Prices are $5 without an ASB card, and $0 with an ASB card. (That's right, if you purchased an ASB card, this event is free). Food trucks will be an additional cost.
If you wait until the day of the event, tickets will be $10 without an ASB Card, and $5 with an ASB card. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, September 4th at the ASB Window.
September is Attendance Awareness Month
- Our September Attendance Challenge for students: Attend all classes, on time, every day for a week and receive prizes such as movie tickets and La Mesa gear. Winners will be announced every Monday! Every day matters!
Important Traffic Reminders
Please, be mindful of the posted signs during drop off and pick up. The Sheriff's Department is ticketing.
Administrators, campus supervisors and teachers are working hard to make car lines move quickly at drop off and pick up. We understand it can be frustrating and that you may not understand why it matters if you pull all the way forward. All that space adds up and slows down the system.
Around Campus
