November 2020
Book Fair
You’re invited to shop our Scholastic Book Fair from October 29-November 6! All
purchases benefit our school and connect kids with new books, favorite characters,
complete series, and more. The book fair is no contact this year, so you will need to set up an ewallet in order for your student to shop. Here is a video about the ewallet: https://players.brightcove.net/1543299976/Eyj59PHsg_default/index.html?videoId=5831064261001
Note from the Nurse:
HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Health Services Reminders
Revised: 10.23.2020
Dear Parents,
As we enter into Fall/Winter, it is a great time to remind our school community of the measures we take to keep students healthy and prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
We reinforce frequent hand washing with our students and coughing/sneezing into a tissue or their sleeve (not their hands).
In addition, we refer to the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) recommendations when determining the need to send a student home from school.
For example, students are to be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
Occasionally we receive questions about head lice management in our schools, and we have an extensive set of resources on our website that can be found HERE.
As needed, we will inform parents when we see an increase in illnesses in our school population with the potential for rapid spread among students and staff (such as influenza) or in the rare instance we have a mandatory reportable disease occur in our population, like Mumps. General head lice notifications are not recommended as they have been found to cause harm and lead to unnecessary treatment. Instead, the school nurse will assess the need for notification on an individual basis to those considered close contacts.
Thank you for reinforcing healthy habits with our students. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at (913) 856-3345.

Direct Donation Campaign
Gardner Elementary PTO
Direct Donation Campaign
Every year, Gardner Elementary PTO sponsors fundraisers to help pay for anything not covered by the District’s school budget.
Due to the district policy of no volunteers, visitors, activities, or clubs in our elementary school, PTO events will not be taking place in person for the foreseeable future. We will do our best to offer some virtual opportunities to keep community engagement. However, our primary focus this year is to support the school financially to help keep our students and staff safe.
The Direct Donation Campaign is perfect for social distancing and for families looking to contribute to the PTO funds. This is also helpful if you don't have time or are hesitant to ask family and friends to buy or donate fundraising items.
100% of your tax deductible donation from this fundraiser goes towards the PTO budget. Some examples of where this money goes to are:
Student and staff shirts
New Panther Mascot Costume
Free books through our RIF Program
Supplies to support the school, students, teachers, and classrooms
Kindergarten graduation ceremony
Guest speaker support
4th grade shirts
Field day inflatables
Teacher conference meals
Teacher appreciation week meals & gifts
Principal’s day
School events such as carnival and walk-a-thon
And so much more...
This is a voluntary fundraiser. You may choose to participate in lieu, or in addition to, any of our other fundraisers we may be doing in the spring. Depending on how successful this is determines if we need to do a spring fundraiser.
If you wish to make a tax deductible direct contribution there are 3 ways to donate:
Send your donation through venmo @GardnerElementary-Pto
Send your donation through paypal @ paypal.me/GardnerElementaryPTO
If you don’t have either of those two accounts, you can send cash or check in your child’s backpack.
Thank you for helping make this year great for all students, families, and staff!!
