The Weekly Dragon Newsletter

The Week of January 4th

The Seagoville Feeder Pattern seeks to become the number one feeder pattern in the district. To achieve this, our principals work collaboratively in an effort to plan effective professional development for teachers, faculty and staff. Administrators calibrate during classroom observations to provide teachers with targeted and specific feedback to improve the quality of instruction in order to increase student achievement. Additionally, our principals lead professional learning communities to assist teachers with data driven instructional decisions, lesson plan development, the creation of aligned curriculum guides, and rigorous six week common assessments. All of these instructional initiatives will provide support for increasing the academic growth and development of the schools in the Seagoville Feeder Pattern.

TEI: Distinguished Teacher Review

What is a Distinguished Teacher?

A Distinguished teacher is one who earns an effectiveness level of Proficient II or higher. These teachers achieve high scores in teacher performance, student achievement, and student perceptions (if applicable). Distinguished teachers also meet additional performance criteria assessed through a central review process called the Distinguished Teacher Review.

In addition to high evaluation scores, Distinguished teachers will show evidence of the following:

  1. Quality of Instruction and Performance
  2. Leadership
  3. Lifelong Learning
  4. Contributions to the Profession

What do Distinguished teachers look like?

Here are examples of applications submitted by teachers undergoing the 2015 Distinguished Teacher Review.

TEI: Reminders

Happy Holidays!
As we enter the holiday season, we want to take a moment to express our appreciation for all that you do to make our schools great places for students. We know that each of you devote countless hours and continue to go the extra mile to ensure the academic growth of our students. On behalf of the Teacher Excellence Initiative team and Human Capital Management, we wish each of you a safe, relaxing, and joyous holiday.

Important Reminders

  • The SLO Goal Accomplishment window is open in Schoolnet. Please encourage your teachers who teach semester long courses to administer and record their SLO Goal Accomplishment prior to winter break so you can score it against the SLO rubric. Please remember you that cannot score an SLO with the rubric unless the teacher attaches a student score sheet reflecting their students’ growth.
  • The application deadline for Wave 2 DTR-eligible teachers is Thursday, January 14, 2016 at noon. Here are suggestions on how you can support the Wave 2 DTR-eligible teachers at your campus as they complete their application.
  • Half of all teachers’ spot observations should be conducted by end of first semester. Please ensure all first semester spot observations are entered into Schoolnet and shared with teachers prior to winter break.
