Spartan Weekly
News from Glen Crest Middle School: Week of 8/30/20
From the Principal
What a busy first week! Thank you for your patience as we fully launched remote learning. We know there has been some frustration with Zoom and hopefully we have been able to work through some of those issues. If your child is still having difficulty, please don't hesitate to reach out.
There have been some questions about learning on asynchronous days. While the teachers are not live "zooming" on asynchronous days, it is best if your child logs into their google classroom at their regular class time during those classes. The teachers are available to the students for extra help, questions, small group instruction or reteaching if needed. If your child logs on at a different time of day than their class time, they may not have that support. We are very much trying to keep the structure of a regular school day.
PE and exploratory classes are regular classes just like the core academic classes. Students are required to be present on synchronous days and complete the assignments on asynchronous days. Both classes will be graded just like during the regular school year. Teachers are taking attendance in all classes. If your child has skipped PE or an exploratory class this past week, please remind them they are required to complete these classes as well.
We have also received questions about whether or not it is ok to use a device other than the district issued chrome book. Other devices may not be recognized on zoom calls depending what the device is named. This may prevent your child from being allowed to enter a class. We are also able to monitor student work in real time if they are using a district device. Please encourage them to use their chrome book. If they are having difficulty with their device, please contact the main office and we will direct you on how to get assistance.
Attendance - If your child is ill and unable to participate in school on any particular day, we ask that you call the attendance line at 630 858-1844 to report them absent. We are still required by the state to monitor and report attendance.
Again, if your child is struggling in any way, please reach out to our counseling staff. They are happy to help!
If your child is having difficulty with remote learning and attendance, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, the counseling staff or myself.

Please electronically sign Student/Parent Handbook
Families should have received an email from “CCSD 89 Handbook”, asking them to electronically sign the Student/Parent Handbook. After reviewing the handbook, families will be able to electronically sign the document. The email was only sent to one guardian’s email address. If you did not receive the handbook, please contact info@ccsd89.org.
