Information about the November 8 Bond Issue
How Does Pickerington’s Tax Rates Compare to Other Central Ohio Communities?
As you consider the Pickerington Schools bond issue on the Nov. 8 ballot, it is important to note that Pickerington tax rates are among the lowest in the Central Ohio area. The following chart shows the total estimated annual taxes paid for a $300,000 market value home in various communities. It also assumes a gross income of $95,000**; a federally adjusted gross income of $78,300; and $15,000 in annual purchases of local taxable goods and services.
It is also important to note that even if the Pickerington Schools 2.80 mill bond issue on the November 8 ballot passes, tax rates are forecasted to fall by ½ a mill. This will make the new levy ‘feel’ like or be similar to a renewal in that tax rates won’t increase while the community continues its commitment.
You can learn more about the upcoming bond issue here. Information about voting is available at the Vote Ohio website. Absentee and in-person voting is already underway!

Counseling Office Weekly Update 10/28/22
Get involved!
Attention all students! No matter what the future brings, skills like teamwork, cooperation, creative problem-solving, decision-making and leadership will always be important. Many extracurricular activities allow the development of these skills that are transferable to school, family and future life. Here is the link to the list of activities available at PHSC. Your PHSC School counselors want to encourage students to get involved!
Attention Seniors!
Please remember that all Seniors must request transcripts at least 10 days prior to the application deadline! Here are the directions to request transcripts. Please make sure to add the college to “Colleges I’m applying to” AND click the box that says “Request Transcript”. Parents should bookmark this hub as a resource for planning for post-secondary exploration and opportunities as well as graduation information.
Sophomore Career Center Visit
On November 3rd and 17th, Sophomores will visit the Eastland and Fairfield Career Centers. They have previously met with EFCTS representatives to learn more about their programs and choose programs they would like to visit during their field trip. Students will need to bring $3 so they can pay for their lunches during their visit. Students will be attending these visits from approximately 9:30 am till 1:30 pm. All teachers have been notified of this trip. Please make sure your student speaks with their teachers about any work that is missed.
Financial Aid/Scholarships
October 1st was the opening day for Seniors to begin submitting their FAFSA. The Free Application For Student Aid, is the most important thing Seniors can do to get money for college. Seniors can also start searching for and completing scholarship applications. Here is a list of the scholarships our high schools have put together to help students locate scholarship opportunities. The Senior Hub has a scholarship presentation with other scholarship resources. Now is the time to start this process!
Attention Juniors and Seniors!
Click on the link to learn about upcoming college and career visits for November. Don’t forget to register through Naviance 2 days (or more) prior to the visit.
Volunteers needed!
Your PHSC school counselors would like to offer career information to our students through people in the community sharing information about their careers. Anyone who would like to visit our school and present to our students about their career, should complete this career speaker interest form. The format/process would be similar to the college admissions visits which includes:: scheduling a 30-40 minute presentation in our media center, students register to attend, one counselor is present, teachers are notified. Speakers would be asked to share the following information: Day in the life of the career, training, average starting salary, best things about the career, demand, challenging things about the career, advancement/further training opportunities.
Sophomore Eastland Fairfield Career Center Visit on November 3rd.
Sophomores who turned in their Parent Permission form by Oct. 10, will be attending the EFCTS Sophomores Visits on Nov. 3 and/or Nov. 17. These students have chosen several programs to visit during these visits. Students who are attending should bring $3 for lunch. The application for the Career Center will open on November 2nd.
Attention Juniors!
The Handshake Students are a diverse group of high school students; they come from different schools, different families, and different backgrounds, but they all share three common traits. The students in the Handshake Program want to continue their education after high school, they're coachable, and they have grit. Handshake America believes that with these qualities, students have what it takes to be successful in life. The Handshake Program provides the students with an opportunity to get out of their hometown “bubbles” and connect with their peers as well as adults who have had success in their lives. The students learn that these common traits will help drive them to success.
Apply to be a Handshake America Student APPLICATIONS DUE NOVEMBER 16
2023 AP Exam Information
This information is to review the Advanced Placement (AP) Exam that will be held during the weeks of May 1 through May 12. AP exams are available for students who complete AP courses. Successful completion of an AP exam can award potential college credit. In some cases, AP exams are also used as an alternative to graduation testing requirements. Students and families interested in college credit should consult with their college of choice to determine the exam score needed to earn college credit.
CREATE A COLLEGE BOARD ACCOUNT
If a student is new to taking AP courses, they should create a College Board account. Students should have already received directions from their AP teacher to complete this in order to avoid creating duplicate accounts. Students who completed an AP class previously should use their existing College Board Account. The act of creating this account and using the classroom join codes is how a student orders the exam so it is important that students do this promptly to avoid any issues moving forward. Students have been working with their AP teachers to join using the teacher’s "AP Join Code". If they have yet to join the AP Classroom on CollegeBoard, they will need to work with their AP teacher to complete this step.
AP EXAM DATES
The 2023 AP exams will be administered over two weeks between May 1-5 and May 8-12 with the exception of AP Art. All AP Art portfolios are to be submitted no later than May 5.
Here is a current AP Exam schedule provided by the CollegeBoard: 2023 AP Exam Schedule
AP EXAM COST
The cost for an AP Exam will be $97 per exam. Please keep in mind that the AP Physics C and AP Micro/Macro Economics courses have two exams associated with their class.
For students who qualify and participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch program, their exams will be free. To qualify for this AP Fee Reduction, students must have qualified for free/reduced lunch. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact Food Services at 614-833-3645.
The $97 fee will be added to your child’s student fees later in the year.
EXTENDED OPT-OUT DEADLINE TO 10/29
We are requiring students wanting to cancel one or more of their AP exams to let us know by October 29th of their intention to cancel their exams. Please use this link to cancel your AP Exam: 2023 AP Cancellation Form
If an exam is canceled after the October 29th deadline, there will be a $40 late cancellation fee assessed by the CollegeBoard.
LATE CANCELLATION/LATE REGISTRATION FEES
If a student cancels their exam after the October 29th deadline, there will be a $40 late cancellation fee. Additionally, if a student adds their AP exam after the October 29th deadline, there will be a $40 late registration fee. New students will be exempt from the late registration fee if they are transferring from another district and use a transfer code to join their PHSC class.
EXAM SCHEDULE
The following is the exam schedule for the 2023 AP Testing Season. Please note that students must arrive 30 minutes prior to the testing start date. Once the exam has begun, late admissions will not be permitted. As such, students should make plans with their parent/guardian for transportation to and from exams.
May 5: AP 3D, 2D, and Drawing physical portfolio construction

Remember to email Mr. Peirano and/or Ms. Hoffman with the names of colleges you plan to apply to and the method you are using to apply (Common App or directly to the institution’s website). You can check in-state FAFSA deadlines here.
Upcoming FCC Visit:
Ms. Hoffman will be at Fairfield Career Center on Friday October 28th from 11:45 - 12:45 in the computer lab 1540 to help support college applications. Please plan to attend and bring any questions or topics you need help with in order to make the best use of our time together.
Upcoming ECC Visit
Mr. Peirano will be at Eastland Career Center the week of November 7th to answer any questions and to help students with any lingering college application issues. We will notify students of the exact date ahead of time so they know to be prepared.

It is important to check your PLSD email each week for updates from the district and PHSC. We do not catch every piece of information that is being sent out, so it is on you to make sure you are checking both accounts regularly.
You still can access your PLSD email accounts. If you have not accessed your PLSD account since last year, your password has been reset. Here is a link to information on what it currently looks like so you can access your account.

“Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling
THE STORY: The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric One towards the end and there’s one that’s Uber what time and we will start here tomorrow millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.
Donations
Pickerington Central Theatre is able to put on top of the line performances funded entirely by tickets and donations thanks to the generous donations of this amazing community. We are so appreciative of this community and their giving spirit and hearts. Any and all donations go directly to the department to purchase rights for shows, costumes, set materials, and designers. If you feel so inclined please take a moment to visit our paypal link and donate. Thank you so much for your fiscal and physical support!
Thank you so much for your time and your support!
PHSC Theatre Auditions Open for Winter Cabaret

The only time obligation is December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd- for a dress rehearsal and the two shows. This is a great performance opportunity for students that are too busy with school and other extracurriculars to try their hand at performing.
