Christy Fugitt, Brazos River RDSPD Program Coordinator

Introducing Christy Fugitt, the new Program Coordinator for the Brazos River Regional Day School Program for the Deaf!!! Christy has worked as a Deaf Ed Classroom Teacher, Deaf Ed Itinerant Teacher, and Deaf Ed Parent Infant Advisor for the last 17 years. She has served in Arlington, Crowley, Burleson, and has been with Brazos River in WISD for the last 8 years.

Christy has just completed 20 years as the Children's Youth minister at her church. Christy is happily married and has three wonderful children who attend school in WISD.

We are so lucky that Christy has accepted this position. Not only is she highly skilled, she has a true heart for the Brazos River staff and the Deaf/hard of hearing students she serves. Starting Monday, September 23, 2019, Christy is going to take the Brazos River RDPSD Program and make it even stronger!!

What Happened to Angela Belding??

Angela Belding is thrilled to be serving Brazos River as the part time Associate Program Coordinator for the 2019-20 school year. She has also accepted a contracted position with the Region 11 Education Service Center.

Returning to Brazos River RDSPD, Stacey McKenzie, Deaf Ed Teacher

We are so pleased to welcome Stacey McKenzie back to the Brazos River RDSPD. Previously Stacey McKenzie worked as a Deaf Ed Classroom Teacher at Weatherford High School from 2015-2016 before traveling with her family to do mission work in the Ukraine. After moving her family back to Weatherford last year, she made it back to the Deaf Ed Classroom. This year she will be teaching 7th and 8th grade at Hall Middle School. We are so excited she is here!

Kody Schouten


  • Kody was born deaf.
  • Brazos River RDSPD Graduate from Hico ISD.
  • Attended Tarleton State University for B.S. in Environmental Engineering and University of Texas in Arlington for M.Eng in Water Resource Engineering.
  • Currently employed with the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department.
  • Is involved with Texas School for the Deaf-sponsored Discovery Leadership for STEM topics with high school students. (Article from Crossroads website)
