Lego Robotics Volunteers Needed- December 1, 2017
On December 16, GCISD will host a First Lego League Regional Qualifier at HMS. We have 13 GCISD team competing from GMS, CTMS, and Cannon. There are a total of 36 teams in the competition. Click to learn more about First Lego League.
Click here to judge or referee (training on December 1).
Click here to volunteer for 2-hour shift(s).
Students compete by maneuvering their robot on a field to complete increasingly complex challenges. Additionally, students present to panels of judges regarding teamwork, robot construction, and a problem-solving project.
In order for this event to be successful, we need many judges, referees, and volunteers. Judges hear presentations from each group and score those according to a rubric with a panel of judges. Referees watch field competitions in the gym on the competition table and score each maneuver as successful or unsuccessful. Each table is scored by a team of referees.
Judges and referees will attend a training on December 1st at 4 p.m. at Cannon Elementary.
The event will begin at 8 am and judging is generally finished around 2 or 3 p.m.
Please consider volunteering as a judge or referee. Ask your spouse, significant other, neighbor or friend to join you.
Shortly after you register as a judge or referee you will receive an email to complete a background check along with details regarding the training event on December 1. Thanks for helping to make this event great.

NJHS Care Cans -Thanks Melissa!
Our 8th grade NJHS students have created approximately 100 Care Cans for the homeless. Many students chose to take theirs home to distribute on their own but there are some extras left over in the mail room. Please feel free to take a can or two on your travels over break. They are easy to keep in your car and have a kind note, . food bars, soap, toothpaste etc. for those in need. Thank you for your help and have a safe and restful break! :)
Best Wishes- David Couras
Thanksgiving Shutdown
Thanksgiving is just around the corner which means many of our offices, classrooms and buildings will be shutdown for the week. Like last year, we are making a concentrated effort to shut down as much equipment as possible during the break. Extended breaks are great opportunities to eliminate unnecessary energy consumption and your participation is greatly appreciated.
Attached is an Energy Shutdown Checklist that specifies the tasks we are asking everyone to complete before leaving for the break. Please complete the checklist and tape it to the outside of your door or office area. Energy Specialist Monica Silva will begin auditing each room in the district starting after school on Friday, November 17.
Monica will share her audit reports with department leaders and campus administrators to see how well we participated in this energy shutdown. Our goal is 100% participation and we look forward to celebrating our success in this effort.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact Monica Silva at monica.silva@gcisd.net or 817-251-5605
We hope you have a great break and a very happy Thanksgiving holiday! Bridget has printed off blue shutdown sheets and administrators will be around Friday evening to check you off.
