Thailand 2014 Mission Trip
Alec
Two years ago I, Alec, spent my summer on an MK2MK mission trip in Durban, South Africa. Going into the project, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect, except that I was going to have “the time of my life”… However, God’s plans were different than mine. On the fifth day of the project, a large stone bench fell on my foot, almost severing part of my big toe and sending me to the hospital for two days. For the rest of the project I found myself constantly exhausted or cheerless because I could not participate in many of the normal activities. When I look back at my summer of 2012, sadly I remember more anger and bitterness than I do joy, yet God did something special in my heart during that trip. He worked in a way that he only could have if I was broken on my knees, not having a blast. Over these last two years, Christ has played a more vital role in my life than ever before because of what God taught me that summer. I’m excited to see what God has in store for me this time around!

All of my brothers have gone on mission trips with MK2MK. When they came back their faith was much stronger and they seemed to understand the brokenness of the world, and a few ways to help fix it. They had a heart for the world and a longing to fulfill the great commission. Their experiences have caused me to want to go on a summer mission trip as well. I have grown up in a Christian home and school my entire life. I feel that my faith has not really been majorly tested though. I think that this would be a great opportunity for me to not only grow in my relationship with God but also become more confident in showing the love of God to everyone in all circumstances. I also look forward to sharing my faith in a non-Christian environment, reconnecting with good friends from Kazakhstan, and learning about a new culture.
