From the desk of Mr. Turnbow
Dear Parents:
I am very pleased to have an opportunity to share some thoughts with you each month regarding Grand Blanc East Middle School. I am excited and energized for this new school year. I look forward to getting to know our students and parents. Education is a partnership and children are more likely to succeed if they have the support of parents, teachers and adult mentors.
We realize that the transition between summertime and school can be difficult. We appreciate your support in establishing routines with your students at home. Setting time aside for discussing your child's school day, doing homework, and getting enough sleep all contribute to the success of your student’s day. In turn, our staff (teachers, support, custodial, administration, counselors, clerical team, volunteers, etc.) at Grand Blanc East Middle School work extremely hard to make sure we are ready for our students each day. Thank you to all who have helped to get this year off to a fabulous start. We appreciate your continued support!
Sincerely,
Scott Turnbow, Principal
Grand Blanc East Middle School
EMS Procedures - Please Read
LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY DISMISSAL: If your student has an appointment during the school day and will be arriving late, please be sure to either call and report this or sign them in upon arrival. They may also bring a doctor's note for a medical excuse. If your student needs to leave early, you will come into the office and sign them out (ID required). We are transitioning back to our pre-Covid policy this year for school day departures. Parents may call the office to have their student called down to the office ready to leave school for their appointment. To minimize the amount of instructional time missed, we encourage you to call with an accurate pick-up time. Parents will still need to enter the office and officially complete the sign-out form to verify the identity of the person who is removing the student from school.
ITEMS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL: If your child has forgotten something for school and calls you to bring it to school for him or her the item will be dropped with the security staff in the Main Entrance vestibule. The item will be delivered to the student's classroom. The exception to this new process will be during the lunch periods (4th-hour class session). During the lunch periods, the student will be called out of class to pick up the item. The best time to drop off needed items during the school day is from 8:30 am - 11 am or 1:15 pm - 2:15 pm.
CARE CENTER: This is an area in the office where students can go when injured or ill. A secretary will tend to the student by either caring for him/her or calling an emergency contact to pick the child up. Any student that vomits or is found to have a fever over 100° must be picked up to go home.
****IF YOUR STUDENT HAS A FEVER OR IS VOMITING, THEY ARE NOT PERMITTED TO RETURN TO SCHOOL UNTIL SYMPTOM-FREE FOR 24 HOURS.

From the Counselors
Greetings and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves. We are the East Middle School counselors, Matt Sokoloski and Nicole LaFleur. Counselors have a variety of responsibilities at school which include reviewing student progress, communicating with parents and teachers, assisting with educational development plans, working with student schedules, and much more.
Our goal is to help students be academically, socially, and emotionally successful at school. We work with students and families to provide support regarding personal and school issues. We will always do our best to assist you in your quest to find a resolution to your concern.
Students are assigned to a counselor based on their last names. If a student’s last name begins with A-K, they are on Mr. Sokoloski’s caseload. If the student’s last name begins with L-Z they are on Mrs. LaFleur’s caseload. As students progress through the grades, the splitting of the alphabet remains the same, so students will have the same counselor all three years they are at East Middle School.
We are excited about the start of this new year. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Positivity Project
Our students will begin Advisory Period on Tuesday, September 13th. Please make sure to remind them that beginning that day, they will first report to their Advisory Period upon arrival, not first hour.
The Positivity Project empowers America’s youth to build strong relationships - and to understand, appreciate and exemplify the character strengths in us all.
During September, the P2 project will explore Other People Mindset (OPM), Curiosity, Teamwork & Open-Mindedness.
Attendance Awareness
Did you know students are considered chronically absent if they miss 10% of the school year? That is only two days a month! Please let us know if you need assistance getting your child to school; we are happy to partner with you! Please click the button below to view our attendance policies & procedures.
