ACP MIDDLE SCHOOL - August 6, 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Knights,
Thank you for all of you that completed the Broadband & Connectivity Survey. We didn't reach the 100% goal I was hoping for but we improved significantly from the 50% completion rate we were at. Important dates to note: August 19, 2021 - Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please be aware that water bottles in the Cafeteria are $1.00. Although breakfast and lunch are free the snack items including water bottles are not free.
Some reminders for you: We will not disrupt instruction to deliver materials to students during class. So, please only drop off materials to be delivered to students that are absolutely necessary. This excludes emergency needs such as medication, etc.,
Please communicate with teachers for any absences to coordinate making up of missed work as well as calling in the absence through our attendance line. percell.anne@cusd80.com or 480-883-5403.
Action Item(s) for you:
Please complete the online annual registration on Parent Portal. If you have issues connecting to Parent Portal, please contact Ms. Ferguson at ferguson.mechael@cusd80.com. This MUST be completed ASAP.

Cash for Classrooms
The Cash for Classrooms Campaign started Monday, 08/04/2021. Students are able to earn a free dress day on 08/13/2021 if donating $1 or more. In addition, the 1st class to have 100% participation (including the teacher) will earn a popsicle party. Those donating $100 or more will receive an email from the Chandler Education Foundation in late August for a free State-48 T-shirt.
This campaign is important to a lot of ACP teachers as the money is directly pumped back into classrooms through the classroom grants. Please see below for a comment from a teacher that has been awarded classroom grants.
"I am a huge supporter of CEF and the Cash for Classrooms campaign because for many years I have been awarded grants to work on projects in my classroom like making solar powered cars and 3D printing projects. When money is donated, it goes directly to students whether it is for classroom supplies, projects or even college scholarships for high school students. Many ACP Middle School students have been able to earn Impact Scholarships because of CEF scholarships. This money goes directly to kids! Please consider donating! - A. Filiere"

Athletics
Thank you to all who tried out for first season sports and congratulations and good luck to our Quarter 1 athletes!
A few reminders:
Students who made a team were charged a $20 activity fee. Payments must be made through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal by selecting “More” and then “InTouch Fee Payments” from the menu options. State tax credit money may be applied to the fee, directions on how to do so were sent out. Students will not receive their team uniform and sport t-shirt until fees are paid. Please contact Fred DePrez if you would like to request a fee waiver due to a financial hardship.

Essay contest
American Essay Contest’s ambition and goal is to quicken the spirit of American patriotism and to stimulate an awareness — a genuine feeling of pride and respect toward patriotism. As such the Chandler Elks Lodge #2429 would like to provide a special opportunity for 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grade teachers and students to participate in our Annual Americanism Essay Contest. This year’s theme is “What does it mean to love your country?”.
There are two divisions for judging essays: Division 1 (combined fifth and sixth grades) and Division 2 (combined seventh and eighth grades). The local lodge will select a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winner from each Division. Local lodge essay winners and sponsoring teachers will receive an Award Dinner in their honor at the Chandler Elks Lodge in late May 2020. Local winning essays will be forwarded on to District, State and National competitions respectively. Awards and/or plaques will be awarded at each level. National Winners will be announced at the Grand Lodge Session in July 2022.
Entry Rules:
1. Eligible participants must be students enrolled in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th Grades.
2. Essay length is not to exceed 300 words.
3. Essay must be typed.
4. Essay must be submitted for judging to the Chandler Elks Lodge Essay Chairman, Taleen Carpenter.
5. Entrants must attach a completed 2020-2021 Americanism Essay Contest Cover Sheet (Section I Only) with the essay.
6. Deadline: must be submitted to Local Lodge by December 15, 2021.
7. Judging Criteria:
· Originality: avoids the use of trite or worn out words and phrases.
· Development of theme: stays focused on ideas and thoughts don’t ramble.
· Mechanics and neatness: uses proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. (1 or 2 grammatical errors can disqualify a student from moving on to Divisional, State and National levels.)
