Blue Bear Notes
Mashburn Elementary
FCS Parents/Guardians,
If your child or a member of your family has been to China and recently returned to our community, we request that you wait for the 14-day incubation period (beginning the day of return to the U.S.) to expire before enrolling your child in school or returning to school. We will not count these absences. Your child will be provided online learning during this period and technology/access if needed.
Please contact your school principal immediately if this applies to your child, even if your child is currently in school.
We do not have a confirmed case of coronavirus in our schools. If this was to occur, we will notify staff and parents/guardians within the school.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students and staff safe. More information on the coronavirus is available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus

Georgia Milestones Testing
Since spring is quickly approaching so is the EOG GA Milestone Assessment. Third and fourth-grade students will be taking the ELA and Math sections. Fifth-grade students will be taking the ELA, math, science and social studies sections. The dates listed below are the specific dates for each grade level. We ask that you help us by not scheduling appointments in the morning during these testing dates. Also, making sure your child is at school on time will help set them up for success. More specific details regarding the EOG GA Milestone Assessment can be found on itslearning and our school website. Parents, we also ask that there are no volunteers on these dates or lunchroom visits. Thank you for understanding!

Career Day
Mashburn Elementary is preparing for its 1st Annual Career Day! This will be an exceptional occasion with your help; we invite you to serve as a Career Day speaker on Friday, March 27, 2020. Speakers/presenters are asked to arrive by 8:00 a.m. and stay until 1:30 p.m. A continental breakfast will be served, along with a special parting gift for participating. We need various career speakers to discuss their profession (job function, educational requirements, etc.…). Also, we encourage speakers to bring job-related visuals and plan to speak for 25minutes per classroom presentation, there are a total of 8 rotations (1 of the 8 rotations will be allotted for you to break, so you will present for 7 sessions). We would like to offer our children inspiration, guidance, career exploration and knowledge as they embark upon college and career readiness.
Please click https://forms.gle/m2Z8KEm4Um4WwjJg6 to sign-up as a guest speaker. If you are unable to stay the entire time please designate the specific times you will be available to speak. If you are available to speak until 1:30 p.m. please indicate that as well. We will make every effort to include your child(ren)’s class in your schedule.
A Message From Nurse Jamie
Hello Blue Bear Parents,
I just want to take a minute to refresh everyone regarding our wellness policy. This time of year, there are many bugs going around, and we need to all follow best practices to avoid sharing these germs. Per wellness policy, if your student vomits or has diarrhea, they need to be kept home for 24 full hours after the last episode. Also, with fever 100.0 or above, must stay home until they are fever-free without the use of fever reducers like Tylenol or Motrin for 24 full hours. If they have red, draining, itchy /painful eyes, they should not be at school until this has been treated. Also, encourage your students to follow these best practices: Cover your cough or sneeze, preferably on the inside of your elbow. Wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer if handwashing is not possible. Do not touch face. Children often rub their eyes, noses, and put hands inside their mouths (for instance, to wiggle a loose tooth!) Please teach and remind them that this is also a way to let germs into their bodies and that this should only be done if necessary, with clean hands, and hands should be cleaned again afterward. We as adults should be doing these things as well. Following these best practices will go a long way towards staying healthy.
Thank you for your help with this!

Second Grade Sweet Street
Second grade students have been learning about economics and planned everything they needed to open a real store including products, pricing, packaging, and advertising. Then students applied for jobs at their store. On February 13th, our stores opened for business. Students had a chance to work at their class store and shop at the other second grade valentine themed sweet shops. All together the stores made $383.08, which was donated to the Forsyth County Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
School Store
Let’s Go Shopping!!
Our School Store’s Grand Opening was a HUGE hit! Your students had the opportunity to cash in their Dojo Points for Blue Bear Bucks. Remember, each shopping adventure will take place the last week of each month. Students can immediately cash in their dojo points or save them for a larger prize in the store. Students are awarded points for exhibiting PAWS (Positive Attitude, Act Responsibly, Work Together, Show Respect) behavior. If you would like to or know of a business that would like to donate for the school store, please contact Katie Colson. (kcolson@forsyth.k12.ga.us).
Parent Survey
We value your input, and want to hear from you. The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Like the student survey, parent responses are anonymous, the responses will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis, and will contribute to Mashburn’s School Climate Star Rating. Thank you so much for your time and support.

7 Mindsets Update
This month’s mindset is Passion First. Throughout the month, we will focus on focusing your strength, exploring your interests, taking a stand, and being authentic. As a family, you and your child can work on applying this mindset at home by identifying personal strengths, using those strengths to discover new interests, and using personal strengths to lead others in learning about your interests.
