Sensorimotor Spotlight
Supporting Learners with Visual & Multiple Impairments
Welcome Back!
We are so grateful for the opportunity to continue collaborating and sharing resources and ideas for this community of educators and parents supporting learners with severe disabilities. Our learners with visual and multiple impairments require passionate, creative, and collaborative teams who are always striving for better.
Better engagement.
Better progress.
Better coherence.
Better collaboration.
We are excited to be part of this journey toward better with you.
Sensorimotor Learners and the ECC
This year, each of our Sensorimotor Spotlights will highlight one area of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) for VI and share ways in which we utilize instructional routines and strategies to promote progress in these areas.
The Expanded Core Curriculum is a vision-specific framework of nine skills areas for all learners with a visual impairment. The goal is to ensure skills are targeted so that learners can work toward their optimum levels of independence in their post-secondary life.
This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in a webinar with the American Printing House for the Blind sharing ways to promote Career Readiness for this population of learners. The bottom line for me is that Career Readiness means we can help our learners be ready for whatever comes next. The way we do this as by addressing the ECC one skill at a time, consistently, and in meaningful ways.
I'm excited to share our team's strategies this year!
