Percy Jackson
Percy Jackson is the protagonist and main character of this book. He is brave, outgoing, and unselfish. He is all of these things because he will do anything to help out. In the book he snuck out of his camp with Annabeth, Grover, and Tyson on a dangerous mission to save his camp and friends.
Direct characterization- "because of my half-blood abilities I have dyslexia, so i have trouble reading things that are not in Greek."
Indirect characterization- "i think that's her way of saying anything is possible. Percy can pass seventh grade. waffles can be blue. Little miracles like that." This shows that Percy has trouble in school because of his disability.
Grover
Grover is Percy's satyr. This means Grover is supposed to protect Percy no matter what. Grover is brave, emotional, but yet rational. He can be fearless in battles but can also be scared of the plans Percy makes.
Direct characterization- " from the waist up he looks like a typical gangly teenager with a peach-fuzz goatee and a bad case of acne."
Indirect characterization- "Grover has taught me a lot about this hidden demi-god world." This shows Grover is very smart and is a good teacher.
Annabeth
Annabeth is one of Percy's best friends and picks her for every mission. Annabeth is smart, handy, and strong. She is in love with architecture and is one of the best fighters at the camp.
Direct characterization- "her blond hair was pulled back in a bandanna".
Indirect Characterization- "Annabeth wants to be a famous architect when she grows up and is always visiting different memorials". This shows she is smart because she studies architecture.
Tyson
Tyson is Percy's cyclops half-brother. He is immune to fire and is very handy with metal. He is used to working with his dad Poseidon at the bottom of the ocean at a forge.
Direct characterization-"how could you miss a giant kid in a refrigerator box"
Indirect characterization- "unfortunately most kids couldn't stand Tyson" This shows he can be annoying.
Luke
Luke is the antagonist of the story. He was a regular half-blood, but he turned on the gods and went to help the titans (the god's enemy). He is cruel and angry at everyone and wants to take the golden fleece to kill the half-bloods.
Direct characterization- "his dark eyes stared at the rising titian with joy"
Indirect characterization- "The gods betrayed us, Its our time to fight back!"
