Teacher Spotlight
- I’ve been meaning to tell you that Coach Youmans has been working extra hard to reconnect and build that relationship with Tyrese.
- I would like to spotlight Kim Diallo for her iReady reading average growth points of 60!
- Brandy Williamson continues to be a positive role model and a ray of sunshine! Her positivity and leadership continue to inspire her class, her students parents and her team of teachers. Brandy's warm smile and willingness to help at all costs has made a lasting impression. Thank you Brandy!
Do you have a idea for a person in the spotlight? Please let me know.
From Jessica
I found this article on why a Trauma-informed approach helps ALL students.
Here's one of my favorite quotes from the article - "The foundation of these relationships is unconditional positive regard for each student, the belief that every student is worthy of care and that worth is not contingent on anything—not compliance with rules, not good behavior, not academic success."

Beyond the reasons that the article above states, another reason for shifting our philosophy to a trauma-informed approach is due to the issue of teachers and at times even students experiences vicarious trauma. "Vicarious trauma affects teachers’ brains in much the same way that it affects their students’: The brain emits a fear response, releasing excessive cortisol and adrenaline that can increase heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration, and release a flood of emotions. This biological response can manifest in mental and physical symptoms such as anger and headaches, or workplace behaviors like missing meetings, lateness, or avoiding certain students, say experts." The article below speaks more on this subject.
