Vision Services For The Week Ending June 20, 2020
Dear Families,
It has been a pleasure working with your child this school year, and in particular with you during the school closure. This will be my last newsletter for this school year, but I do plan on sending out helpful vision resources over the summer.
The story this week is entitled, The Piggy in the Puddle, by Charlotte Pomerantz. I have included activity suggestions and resources that you can use with your child. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have...or just to say hello. I hope that you all have a lovely summer full of family, friends, fun, and hopefully sun!
Warm Regards,

In the book for this week, The Piggy in the Puddle, a little piggy wants to share the fun she is having in the mud with her reluctant family. There are some funny words that are used throughout this story, such as fiddle-faddle and willy-nilly. Talk to your child about what he or she thinks these words mean.
Please try to do one or more of the following activities together this week.
1. Take your child outside to make a mud pie or to play in the mud. Start by putting some dirt in a container large enough to move your hands around in; add some water and "stir" using all hands! Talk about how it feels. Point out that mud can be fun to play in but can make you feel very dirty.
2. Help you child practice counting to 9. For example, ask him/her to count out 9 objects you request (9 cookies, coins, plates). Or give him/her a certain number of items and ask if he/she has 9 items. Miscount on purpose to make it fun!
3. Allow your child to help you clean the dishes by washing them with soap: run water in the sink, add soap, place dishes into the water and clean them with a sponge. Talk about the various kinds of soap and examine the containers that they come in: dish soap, bath soap, laundry soap, etc. Compare how they feel and smell.
4. Have fun with reading and writing activities over the next several days.
- Practice reading the letter p and the numbers 1-9. Select a few review letters to read.
- Practice writing the letter p and few review letters.
- Together, look for and/or label items in your home that begin with p such as paint, pan, penny, piano, pillow, or pail.
