Drunk Driving

Limit of Intoxication

In the united states Drunk driving is a major problem. One of the controversy involved with drunk driving is whether the legal limit of intoxication should be lowered. Right now the legal limit of intoxication is 0.08.

When a person is driving and they are over the limit of intoxication things become very risky. ProQuest Staff says that "a person's motor skills are impaired while drunk."

I think if a persons motor skills are impaired they should not be driving.

People want to lower the legal limit because drunk driving is dangerous. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that ..."40% of total traffic deaths in the United States are due to drunk driving." The reader can tell that drunk driving is killing to many people.

MADD is one of the organizations that would like to lower the legal limit. Jan Withers, President of MADD says that "the most important thing to me is that we save as many lives as we can as soon as possible..." I think that the reason Jan wants to lower the legal limit is because she wants people to stay safe on the road.

On the contrary, their are some people that think that the legal limit will stay same. Ryan Lenora Brown says that "The issue with lowering the legal limit is that it will take a lot of effort for a potential result..." I do not agree with Ryan because I think that if someone really wanted to lower the legal limit, they would do it right away.

In the end, I think that the legal limit of intoxication should be lowered because people need to stay safe while driving.
