Red Mill Dismissal Policy Reminder
In order to ensure every child's safety and to facilitate an orderly daily dismissal, students are expected to adhere to a consistent daily dismissal procedure. To change where a student goes at dismissal, how the student is transported, with whom the student leaves, or the time the student is released, Red Mill Elementary requires a note or email from a parent/guardian authorizing the dismissal change, which includes:
o Date
o Student’s first and last name
o Name of student’s homeroom teacher
o Parent’s signature and contact info
PLEASE NOTE: Emails MUST be sent to redmiles@vbschools.com. If the sender’s email is not recognized, the office staff will call the parent/guardian to confirm the dismissal change.
The cutoff time for dismissal changes is 2:10 PM. After 2:10, no other notes or emails will be accepted in the office and no further changes will be made to any student’s dismissal plan for that day.

School-wide Expectations
Be Respectful
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Our teachers have been working with the students to understand what these expectations mean in the various areas of our building, as well as the bus. We hope by having consistent school-wide language and expectations, we can help all students feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn.
Chromebook Update
Students are excited to be using a new learning tool this year, an HP Chromebook! 4th and 5th graders received their Chromebooks this past week, and we plan to disperse Chromebooks to 3rd, 2nd and 1st graders by the end of the week. Parents will be receiving a letter with information about which Chromebook has been checked out to your child. All students are going through an introductory lesson with specifics about how to care for and use the Chromebook. Students will now have easy access to the Clever Portal to access Achieve3000, TenMarks, FasttMath, Core Clicks, RazKids, Discovery TechBook, Wixie, and other web-based programs used by Virginia Beach Schools. They also will access some assignments via Google Classroom and use Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Draw, and more to create, write, draw, research, and collaborate on projects. We are very excited about the possibilities.
