A Note From Miss Fisher
Holiday Lunch
We are disappointed to not be able to spend time together over lunch this week due to the Early Release change. We are working with the caterer to bring lunch so that you can fix a plate during the day. Stay tuned to your over the next few days for information about what time lunch will be available.
Capital Improvement Ideas
Please see more info below as we work together to determine our needs for PES.
Teacher Working Conditions Survey
Please see message further below from Central Services. I do not know if you have already received the link or will need to use the link below.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this and provide our School Improvement Team, as well as myself feedback for what is going well and areas of need. I know that I am new and have a lot to learn as a leader, but I am still very committed to leading you well and growing as and administrator.
Vacancies
We continue to look for viable candidates for our three Instructional Assistant/Bus Driver spots (EC PreK, EC, and 1st Grade). If you know of anyone interested please let us know!
Title 1/Cafeteria Balances
Of the families that have applied, we are currently at 35% of our population for Free and Reduced lunch. In order for PES to maintain Title 1 status, we must be at 40%. Also, please ensure the cafeteria balance sheets get sent home with students who have outstanding accounts.
Wishing you well!
Miss Fisher

Teacher Working Conditions Survey (TWC)
As you know, this is an off year for the Teacher Working Conditions Survey (TWC). Since this is the case, we have prepared for you survey with a subset of the TWC questions. The purpose of the survey is collect information that you can use to inform school improvement efforts and initiatives.
The survey will be open between December 13th and January 11th. Please communicate the opportunity for input to your teachers and any related instructions that you wish to provide as soon as possible. We definitely understand that time is tight, but it will be ideal for employees who would like to do so to have time to complete the survey during winter break.

After School Specials
MONDAY, DECEMBER 17
Project-based Learning Flip Style (K-8)
Kristen Breedlove from JS Waters School
Have you heard all the buzz about PBL? In this session, we will explore problem and project-based learning "Flip-Style"! We will discuss and explore how flipping entry documents, content workshops, and formative assessments can free up time for maximum experience with higher depth levels of knowledge. The presenter will share her own use of Screencastify, SeeSaw, Flipgrid, and Google Apps to flip instruction and assessment. Participants will walk away with a framework for implementing problem and project-based units in their classroom.
Monday, January 7
Engineering Technology into Inquiry-based Learning (K-5)
Erin Boecke (Pittsboro Elementary)
How do you create hands-on learning experiences and still guarantee that standards are taught explicitly? In this session we will explore lesson design that centers around students creating a product. Integration of technology tools will focus on inquiry and make learning collaborative. You will also leave with an idea of how to filter learning down to small group instruction in both reading and math. The craft comes in blending engineering, technology, and small group instruction under one umbrella.
