Beck Bulletin "Excellence For All"
Feb. 13, 2018
Principal's Message
Dear Beck Families,
It's been an exciting week at Beck! Today our students kicked off a kindness challenge and I'm excited to see how our students will respond. I know that our students understand the importance of great character, and this will be another opportunity to show how much Beck student's and families care about helping others. There is more information below that will help you get involved!
It's that time of year when we are rolling into benchmark testing and STAAR testing is just around the corner. Please continue to encourage your child(ren) and help build their confidence. We know that students can sometimes get anxious, but just remind them that they are well prepared and to simply put forth their very best effort. Thanks for all you do to help Beck be the best school!

National Kindness Week Kicks off a Kindness Challenge!
Beck has partnered with Trophy Club and other NISD schools to kick of a Kindness campaign! To kick-off the 15 day challenge, nationally recognized founder and President of the non-profit organization called Thinkkindness.org, Brian Williams conducted a pep rally that inspired students into action by spreading kindness throughout our schools and the world.
Two challenges were issued to the students at Beck 1. Spread 5,000 acts of kindness during the next 15 days. 2. Donate new or gently used shoes to children in Africa. Donated shoes will be collected in each homeroom.
This is a collaborative effort to create a culture of kindness in our schools and the community of Trophy Club.

School Report Card and TAPR Reports
Dear Parents,
Below, you will find a link to the State of Texas 2015-16 School Report Card for Beck Elementary. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be provided to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.
The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law. The report for our school may or may not have all the information described, because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school.
State law requires that the school report card display information about the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socio-economic status of the students and must include at least two years of results.
The School Report Cards can be found online at:

A more complete report about Beck, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), is available by clicking on the link below.

Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this report card. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
S. Conklin
Access to Student E-Portfolios Now on Report Cards
As we enter the 2nd semester of the school year, you may notice a link to your child’s ePortfolio on his/her report card. We are excited to include this link because we believe it will provide more opportunities for you to talk to your child about the things he/she is doing in class. There are a few things that we want you to keep in mind as you and your child view and discuss their ePortfolio together.
- Privacy: In elementary school, we encourage students to allow viewing rights for those within Northwest ISD who have been given the link to the ePortfolio. Since we are encouraging privacy, you will likely need to log in with your student to view their work. Sitting with your student to see their work may be a great conversation starter and opportunity to encourage your child!
- Digital Citizenship: While we are very proud of the work our students do in NISD, we discourage parents from sharing their child’s ePortfolio link on social media. We talk to students regularly about what information is safe to share online and the intended audience. Please continue to have these conversations at home with your child as well.
- Non-Evaluative: The ePortfolio link is a non-evaluative reference. If you do not see the link show up on the report card, this does not mean that your student does not have an ePortfolio, it simply means that they have not uploaded the link yet. We will have other opportunities to upload in the future.
- Reflect Together: One of the driving forces behind using the ePortfolio is for students to establish goals, show their best work, and reflect on what they’ve learned. Talk to your child about their work and why they selected it.
