what is the internet?

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve several billion users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the workd wide web (WWW), the infrastructure to support email, and peer-to-peer networks.



uses of the internet

people use the internet for many things:

to search, to talk to friends or to download data and apps, there are lots of ways to communicate using the internet e.g facebook and twitter. but you can also talk to people from around the globe.


what is the world wide web?

The World Wide Web (abbreviated as WWW or W3, commonly known as the web) is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia and navigate between them via hyperlinks.

A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the world wide web. An information resource is identified by a uniform resource identifier (URI/URL) and may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content.hyperlinks present in resources enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources.

benefits and disadvantages of the internet

advantages

  • it can be used at any time of the day;
  • you dont have to wait for it to open or for someones permission to use it;
  • there is a vast range of information;
  • easy to contact people.

disadvantages

  • bank websites shut down at midnight and open 7am.
  • The Internet has been used to facilitate transnational crimes such as human trafficking, terrorism and fraud.

future of the internet

The Internet and information and communications technology (ICT) have the potential to drive world development, global-economic growth as well as improve people’s lives — not just in developing countries but across the globe.

as our technology improves, so will our internet and the uses of the internet will be at a whole new level.
