"Letting your mind play is the best way to solve problems." -Bill Watterson (cartoonist)
All students currently enrolled at Discover U must save their spots for next year. The sooner you save your spot the better. Thank you for allowing us the privilege to continue working with your child(ren)!
NURTURE: Mr.Pitera's Class In fourth grade, Mr. Pitera's class is nurturing students' emotional intelligence through practicing mindfulness. They are using ClassDojo to explore their emotions. Emotions are powerful: they can either overwhelm you, or become your best friend. With ClassDojo students go on a journey to understand how they can manage their powerful emotions through mindfulness. The activities were created in partnership with Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence. | INSPIRE: Mrs. Tuhy's Class Mrs. Tuhy's class has been exploring the different types of life that live on an ocean shelf. Their goal is to teach the visitors who come to the aquarium about this ocean habitat and how the sun helps to feed the many plants and animals that live here. Mrs. Tuhy has taken this a step further and is inspiring learning by having her students publish their very own classbook. There is nothing more gratifying than to see students excited to learn. Watch their faces light up as they become published authors. | EMPOWER: Ms. Navarro's Class Our kindergartners are a scientist studying bees this quarter for project based learning. They want to understand how bees live and what they need in order to survive. They will use this information to help teach people about the importance of bees. They are also making recommendations for how people can help to make sure that bee populations continue to grow. One way they are already helping is by growing flowers in class. |

NURTURE: Ms. K's Class Ms. K's kindergartners have been nurturing a classroom community. They focus on different skills that will help bond them and create a positive environment. Recently they have worked on the concept of responsibility. Some of our kindergartners have shown this by being responsible at lunch and raising their hands when they need something. | INSPIRE: Ms. Younan's Class Ms. Younan's third grade class has been inspired by giants, dragons, talking animals, ogres, princesses, and sometimes even fairies through the process of creating their own fairy tales. Students researched, drafted, edited and published their fairy tale. These marvelous magical stories will be presented in class and hung in the hallway for everyone to enjoy. | EMPOWER: Mrs. Davis' Class Mrs. Davis' class will be empowered through art expression in March. Students will research an artist and then they will use this as inspiration to create their own art work. They will decorate their hallway with their art so that classes can come by and do an art walk. |

They are constantly exploring the alphabet whether through letter finding, letter picture matching, spelling and more! | INSPIRE: Mrs. Matie's Class Mrs. Matie's class will be inspired in March as they learn about the Iditarod and follow along. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race in March within the state of Alaska. | EMPOWER: Ms. LaMarsh's Class In second grade Ms. LaMarsh's class have been exploring the career of an architect. They are now ready to become architects themselves and help build a mock house for a family. Their goal is to decide what materials are best to use to build a house. |

This is optional, of course. If the student is not wearing denim bottoms with their uniform shirt, then the expectation is that the student is in the school uniform.
