Peterson's Post

January 18-22

Stars and Wishes

1. It is so great to see that our extra technology has helped so much with centers. Thank you for thinking outside the box in scheduling for your time. Nice work.

2. We have so many positive comments about our school. From subs, from visitors and parents. Someone told me yesterday and Mann was the best school and that if they had small children still, they would send them here. So proud!!

A Wish or two or three: (I am keeping the first wish from last week's Smore and adding one more)

1. Apply for the grant! You could be the one who could get 1,000.00 for your room.

2. Several of you have mentioned visiting other schools for observations. (Sequiota, Cowden, Robberson) Please try to schedule these visits. If others would like to observe at other schools, please let me know. If you need help, please let me know.

Friday Feedback

Please click on the link above to go to the Friday Feedback link. Please do this each Friday!

FIELD TRIPS

Please remember that field trips MUST be scheduled by April 1st. This is so we do not have any concerns getting transportation at the last minute.

NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE

For the Learning Lab computers (room 136) and for the computer cart, PLEASE make sure to let Brittany know if something is wrong with a computer. For 136 please put the computers on the counter by the phone with a sticky as to what is wrong. Then either email or call the office to let Brittany know so she can put in a work order. For the computer cart, please do the same, but put them on top of the cart. Hopefully there will not be a lot at one time that need repair. Computers are sometimes being put back on the window ledge that do not work. I appreciate your help!!

Shop With A Hero

Please let me know if you are interested in shopping with a student. In addition, please send me the names of any students you feel would benefit from this program.

The Shop With A Hero program will continue this year (funds and support were recently confirmed). Please start thinking about 3 students from your site that may benefit from this opportunity that will take place Saturday, February 6th.

Update on my dad:

First- Thank you again for all of your thoughts and prayers. It was so very touching to get so many texts and emails. You are all amazing people.

He went home Wednesday and is very glad to be there. The ulcer is no longer bleeding. His blood pressure is back to normal, but his blood levels are not. Once he gets to eat real food, those should improve quickly. We still have to go to Barnes to check out his pancreas and liver. I am not sure when we will be going, but will keep you posted as I will be out when we take him. Caeli and my brother came in, which was a blessing. My brother leaves tomorrow, Caeli left on Tuesday. Thank you again for your support. It is such a blessing to work with such caring people.

INFORMATION NEEDED FOR THIS MONTH:

For January please be prepared to show your MOY scores compared to the BOY scores for math and reading. (those if you who tested late will do this in February)

Also, be prepared to share Lexia reports, anecdotals, running records etc...to show the progress of your students.

Reflect on these questions:

-What percentage of your students are on target to meet their end of year goals?

-What conversations are you having with your students about their goals?

-What do you have in place in order to help your students meet their goals?

-What other support or resources do you need?

For February:

For those how did not have BOY to MOY scores, please bring those.

For Grades 3-5- Please be prepared to tell me how Dreambox is going? Please be prepared to pull up reports for your students to discuss their progress.

For K-2- TBD

For March: (this needs to be done BY your CPT time)

Your assignment for March is to schedule a meeting with another teacher in the building. You need to choose a staff member who is:---not in your same grade level, not someone you talk to on a regular basis and someone who is not in your focus group. Remember specialty teachers as well. I will have a calendar for you to sign up on in Canvas. This is what your observation needs to entail:

1. The visit should be at least 30 minutes.

2. The visit can be done at a time other than your plan time. We will get classes covered. (I will have to use Ben to do this)

3. This should be a one on one conversation

4. You will be responsible for setting up the visit.

The conversation needs to be centered on the following:

A. What physical changes has this teacher made to their room and why? If no changes have been made, what are their thoughts for change next year?

B. How is the staff member managing Lexia and Dreambox as far as:

-Getting the recommended minutes for each student

-Using the reports for each program

-Thoughts on how the programs are helping their students

-Any concerns with either program

C. How does this staff member have their reading set up?

-How do they document the progress of their students?

-How often to they document?

-Is there a form they use for this?

D. How does this staff member have their math set up?

-Do they have math stations/centers/rounds?

-If so, what changes or tweaking have they done?

E. What is one take away you will use from this visit?

Please be ready to share this information when we meet for our CPT meeting. Please either type it up for have notes written down.

Good To Know- anticipated employee high absence days

For the 2015-2016 school year, we anticipate heavy employee absences on the dates listed below. Historically, Kelly Services has had a difficult time filling absences with substitutes on these dates. If possible and if an event hasn’t already been scheduled, we’d appreciate any effort you might make to avoid scheduling events on these days. Also, it would be extremely helpful if we can ask teachers to avoid Fridays for Assessment Testing. This made a huge difference last year! Beyond these, please take into consideration these high absence days:

· Friday, March 25th – Good Friday

· Monday, March 28th – Easter Monday

· Friday, May 5th – SPS Graduation

· Friday, May 6th – SPS and Evangel Graduation

· Friday, May 13th – MSU and Drury Graduation

The Ipads are here!!! The Ipads are here!!!

I have given an Ipad to each grade level so everyone can have a chance to look at them and see how they are set up. Remember you can put other apps on the ipad as long as they are free. What I need from you is how you want to use these ipads. What do you feel would be the best way to efficiently use them.. (leave one per grade level, store them in the Learning Lab and let people sign up for all 6 or the number they want....other thoughts....suggestions.....) I will send an email as well, but also wanted to post this so you could be thinking. SPED and specialty---you may use these as well. Please get with one of the grade level teachers if you are interested. At this point this is who has each ipad:

Katie Williams

Tessa Sweet

Maria Thomas

Laura Wrinkle

Gail Iman

Emily McConnell
