This Week
It has been a short but busy week here at GATE!
The students have been finishing up NWEA MAP tests and have been busy in the classrooms! It's so nice walking through the halls hearing their discussions and seeing their focus.
Next week we will be participating in "The Great Kindness Challenge". This is a worldwide initiative dedicated to growing kindness and compassion. The students will be given an idea list here at school with acts of kindness that don't cost a thing! We will also have a kindness spirit week - see the schedule below! I hope that our students are able to connect this week with our Positivity Project Character Strengths as well. You can even participate in the Kindness Challenge by doing acts of kindness at home!
Please take a look through this newsletter and let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Kate Martin, Principal

The Great Kindness Challenge!
Bringing P2 Home
This week's P2 character trait was perseverance.
You complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up.
The concept of perseverance can most often be found in one's active pursuit in overcoming obstacles. Those who persevere are able to set goals for themselves and then take active, calculated steps toward those goals. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance are able to handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals.
What does Avondale Offer After 8th Grade?
In late March I plan to have the AHS counselors come present to our GATE families to fully explain all of these opportunities. This will be a weeknight event - I will communicate it in advance so you can plan to come see all that we have to offer after GATE. Until then, please feel free to access this document and start learning!
