Elm Street Field Day is Friday!

Thank you to all of our parents who have helped to make Field Day a reality! We appreciate all the prep work that has taken place behind the scenes as well as all who are volunteering their time to support events on Friday. Below are the grade level colors for Field Day. For team spirit and an extra layer of safety and organization, please be sure your child wears his or her grade level color. The forecast looks lovely for Friday, and it is sure to be a wonderful day filled with fun memories!

Rising Eagle Kindergarten Night was held April 26

The Elm Street Kindergarten Team excitedly welcomed approximately 35 families (around 90 total guests) with rising kindergarteners to Elm Street last week! Loved seeing so many new Eagle families joining us under the Elm! We cannot wait to get to know them! Always fun to see many familiar families bringing new Eagles our way, too! Attendees enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to bring their rising Eagle to Elm Street to spend a little time exploring the classrooms, meet the current Kindergarten teachers and teaching assistants, and learn more about Kindergarten at Elm Street.

Kindergarten registration remains open at Central Registration Center. Please encourage anyone you know to register now. It is important that we have accurate enrollment counts to plan the right number of teachers. Families needing to register will find information online about what is needed to enroll: details can be found here.

Looking forward to getting to know our newest Eagles in Kindergarten next year!

Georgia Milestones Champion Celebrations held Friday, April 27

Elm Street students really gave their all during the days of Georgia Milestones Assessments. Although we have not yet received scores, we feel proud of the effort our students gave during their time to shine! Students celebrated their dedication and perseverance with a Milestones Champion celebration in the gym last Friday. Cheers, smiles, and even some dance moves took place throughout the games and activities. Who knew people could hula hoop and turn around at the same time?! Our top competitors can! Special thanks to Mr. Tate, Coach Baker, and Megan Kennedy for preparing and leading the day's celebration events. Congrats again to all students who earned the honor of participation! We will share scores when they are available.

#CowetaKindness

Elm Street students have been filling up a hallway bulletin board "posting" the kindness they see around them each day. Our community benefits greatly from our kindness to one another and Elm Street students are quick to recognize it. Please support #CowetaKindness by encouraging your child and other family members to treat others with kindness and to recognize the kindness around them. Check out the photos below for some inspiration! #CowetaKindness

Science Fair this Thursday afternoon

Elm Street's Science Fair is Thursday afternoon! While all fifth graders along with fourth grade reach students participate as part of their curriculum, the Elm Street Science Fair is open to all grade levels. Any type of scientific experimentation where students are testing something in order to answer a scientific question is welcome. Our fourth grade reach students and all fifth graders are required to have a tri-fold board displaying specific requirements such as: scientific question/topic, hypothesis, materials, procedures, data/results, and conclusions. Other participants are welcome to display their learning on a poster, a project board, or some other way. All young fair participants will be recognized with a certificate of participation; their projects will not be judged for medals (only 4th and 5th). Not sure where or how to begin? Here is an example link discussing an experiment with paper towel absorption to help get your mind going: https://www.education.com/science-fair/article/find-absorbent-brand-paper-towels. Elm Street's Science Fair is Thursday afternoon in the cafeteria, with students reporting around 4:30 p.m. to interact with judges. Awards will be presented approximately 5:00 or 5:15 p.m., or whenever the judges complete their decision-making. Participating students should bring their projects to school Thursday morning and present them to their teacher (if they've not already done so) in order to be set up for the fair that afternoon. Happy experimenting, scientists!

Please see the attached letter for details regarding Coweta County Chromebook procedures for the upcoming summer. Printed copies of the letter will come home with students on Monday in Eagle Folders. But, we wanted to be sure to share the info now for anyone interested in learning more.
