Electives - We change those in prescheduling and during Prep Days, after that, we do not change electives.
Program Changes - Talk to your teacher first, then come see your counselor.

Clubs and Organizations
- There are many clubs and organizations here at Warren.
- Usually around October, you can get a good list of clubs from the counseling office.
- You will also notice many signs in the stairwells and around the school, letting students know about upcoming meetings.
- Don't see a club you are interested in? You can start your own. You will need a teacher to sponsor the club and then talk to our Vice Principal, Mr. Hernandez about starting it.

College, Career, and Military Center
- We have a College, Career, and Military Center where our CCMA is always available to help. She houses scholarships and has computers ready for students to use to do applications, interest inventories, or research various topics. Look at her newsletter here.
- Counselors are also available to help any time students have questions.
How do you get an SAT or ACT fee waiver?
- Students qualify for a fee waiver if they are on free or reduced lunch. You can sign up for that here.
- We encourage juniors and seniors to apply for free or reduced lunch, even if they do not eat on campus, so they can qualify for these waivers.
- Once you have taken an SAT with Warren, you will find your fee waivers in your collegeboard account. If you can not see them, reach out to Sharon.daul@nisd.net for assistance.
SAT or ACT
- These tests are typically required to apply to college and for some scholarships.
- Colleges do not have a preference of one test over the other.
- The SAT has more English sections, whereas the ACT has more math and science.
- Warren offers the PSAT (practice) to all sophomores and juniors and the SAT to all juniors for free, once a year. Students can pay to take the ACT or to take the SAT again. Colleges will look at the highest score.
Frequently Asked Questions
Advanced Academics
Q: Can a student participate in more than one college credit program (like AP, OnRamps, and dual credit)?A: Yes, you can take a mixture of advanced classes. Get more information on Advanced Academic classes here.
Athletics
Q: Do you have to stay in sports period all year?
A: This is really up to the coach, but generally students do stay in the sport all year long, they use the second semester as a time for training. Sometimes students change to a different sport in the spring. This can all be discussed with the coaches.
Summer School
Q: When will NISD summer class schedules be available?
A: They are generally available early May. It generally costs about $280 for a full credit.
Attendance
Attendance is counted by class period. Students can miss 8 days in a first semester course and 10 in a second semester course without losing credit. They are allowed to miss 18 for a year long class.
If the student was ill or saw a doctor, be sure to turn the note into the attendance office within 3 days of the absence. An excused absence still counts in the total number of absences (you can have 19 excused absences and not receive credit.)
Miscellaneous
Q: What should a student do if they are having problems with a teacher?
A: They first need to speak with (and/or have their parent speak with) that teacher about their concerns. If things do not improve, then the parent should reach out to our Academic Dean, Mr. Weissler.
