The Weekly Update #4
November 17th, 2022
NOVEMBER 18, 2022
What an amazing, action-packed week to be a Homestead Husky! Next week is Thanksgiving - we only have school Monday through Wednesday. Enjoy your long weekend celebrating your Thanksgiving traditions.
The countdown to winter break is on with only 21 school days remaining. The coming weeks will be filled with fun activities.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION
The 5th graders in Mrs. Marlee’s class are studying the Revolutionary War. On Tuesday, the kids experienced what it was like to be a real patriot paying taxes to the king. Principal Kahler joined in the lesson as Queen Kahler and the students were taxed a percentage of their delicious treats. The students then marched on the office in a peaceful protest about the way taxes were being handled . “No taxation without representation” was their message.
Art Club was busy on Tuesday afternoon making holiday cards from Homestead. We send an annual Holiday greeting to all the ASD schools to spread cheer. We are so impressed by all of our Art Club members and their creativity. Thank you to Mrs. Allen for sponsoring and inspiring Art Club members!
Basketball Club participants perfected their pick and roll this week in preparation for the Husky Jamboree on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Our Huskies will take on Alpenglow, Eagle River, Birchwood, and hopefully Taku. Go Huskies!
- Mrs. Johnston and her talented bunch of Huskies have been preparing tirelessly for the Choir Tour on Friday, December 16, 2022. Choir members will serenade the Chugiak Senior Center, Wells Fargo, Three Bears, Fred Meyer, Walmart, and more! We are in need of three additional chaperones, so please contact Mrs. Johnston if you are available.
- Choir will be performing at the Chugiak Eagle River Chamber Of Commerce Winter Wonderland/Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Eagle River Town Square on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 7:05 PM, just after Santa arrives to light the tree.
- Congratulations to our district-wide Honor Choir members Finola, Eleanor, and Kayla and alternates Scarlett, Isabella, and Peyton. We are incredibly proud of you ladies!
BAND AND ORCHESTRA
Sixth grade band and orchestra students have been putting in lots of practice time and are excited to show their growth on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Homestead's winter concert. Parents are encouraged to attend, so save the date!
62 craft club members decorated Thanksgiving table runners on Wednesday afternoon and what fun was had! Craft Club will meet again on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.
ART WITH MRS. ALLEN
Kindergarteners dazzled Mrs. Allen with their clay heart dishes.
1st graders worked with watercolors to create colorful turkeys and WOW did they turn out cheery, bright, and fun!
5th graders sculpted colonial candle stick holders and impressed Mrs. Allen with their clay skills.
PE WITH PAYNE
This week in PE, students were fitted for cross country skis in preparation for ski week, which is a highly anticipated activity at Homestead.
Getting rid of kids cross country ski gear? Coach Payne would love to have it. All donations are very much appreciated.
BACK IN THE KITCHEN!
Mr. Keith is back and we are PUMPED that he started serving hot lunches on Thursday. You can load funds on your Parent Connect account HERE. Lunches are $4.50 and no student will ever be turned away from receiving a hot lunch; however, their account will be charged.
Students are welcome to purchase a milk à la carte milk for a $1.00 but must have funds on their account.
Please pay online as Mr. Keith is unable to give change. Checks are also discouraged.
Please click HERE to apply for free and reduced lunch. YOU MUST APPLY EVERY YEAR. Parents are encouraged to apply before December 31, 2022.
WINTER WONDERLAND TOY DRIVE
If you have any gently used toys, winter gear, or books you can drop them in the labeled box in Homestead's front lobby. Thank you!
