Building Progress Through Kids
Does Anyone Remember the Rollercoaster Analogy?
Kids falter, make mistakes, and have bad days just like we do. As we near the homestretch of the school year, it is important to remember that our Middle School students are the equivalent of an adolescent roller coaster. The student that we have worked with all year to maintain passing grades, keep out of trouble, and go out of our way to help can make mistakes and end up 5 steps back from where they started with us. I keep going back to the idea that we have to think of student progress "like a rollercoaster ride". It has it's ups and downs, but isn't the ride fun! Keep your head up and know that you are doing great things!

New Challenge!
The next challenge is to remember the power of a simple "Hello!" I am great at greeting everyone the first week of school. I make sure to say "hello", ask about their day, and a myriad of other cordial greetings in the halls. It helps make this a welcoming place at the beginning of the school year. As the year goes forward, these seem to slow down. Not because of a lack of effort, but I find myself lost in thought as I walk the halls. I can walk right past someone without saying anything. I need to change this, please help me! My goal for the rest of the year is to greet everyone in the hall that I pass, even if that means greeting you five times in one day! I challenge you to do this as well. You never know whose day you will make with a simple "Hello".
