June 6, 2019
Dear Families:
Mansfield High School is pleased to announce that effective June 10, 2019 we will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System during the school day. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors in our school and provide a safer environment for our students and staff.
Procedure:
Upon arriving at MHS, visitors will check in at the Main Office and will be asked to present a US government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, which will be scanned into the Raptor system.
The Raptor system checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders.
Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the individual by name, photo, date, and the purpose of their visit.
NOTE: If for any reason you do not have a US government-issued Driver’s License, a school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name and date of birth into the Raptor system.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and support in enhancing the school safety protocols in our district. Should you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mary Watkins
Principal

French 4 and Spanish 4 Classes Broke Out!
With two new kits from Breakout.edu, Mrs. Beck and Ms. Murphy created Breakouts for their students in French 4 and Spanish 4.
Designed to simulate an escape room for the classroom, students are presented with a box which already had a variety of letter, shape, number or arrow locks attached to it. Relying on source materials provided in the target language, students then had to figure out the correct combination for each lock on the box in order to successfully breakout.
The French 4 students were stuck in the 17th and 18th centuries until they were able to unlock their locks to escape the French Revolution. The Spanish 4 students found themselves traveling on their own through the airport, subway and neighborhoods of Madrid until they were able to reach their final destination and unlock the door of their vacation house.
While most students were eventually able to breakout of their boxes, all students discovered a new way to collaborate, cooperate and think critically in their second language.
