OTSEGO LOCAL SCHOOLS
Superintendent's Weekly Update - February 2, 2018
Please take a look at the information from our Custodial Director Eva Vasher. I would like to personally thank the entire custodial staff for helping keep our students healthy.
Otsego’s Custodial staff is diligently working to be PRO-ACTIVE in reducing illness among students and staff. Custodians are using an Electrostatic sprayer. The sprayer is used with Vital Oxide, a hospital grade sanitizer, and disinfectant. Vital Oxide kills bacteria and viruses including Norovirus; it is ideal for contact surfaces. Electrostatic disinfection sprayers utilize electrically charged tips on the end of the sprayers to add a positive charge to droplets that seek out and wrap bacteria and germ-infested areas in a negatively charged world.
The force of electrostatic attraction is so strong that the droplets can, and will, reverse direction and move upwards, against gravity, to coat hidden surfaces. Electrostatic droplets tend to repel each other and not overlap, which provides for uniform dispersion and 100 percent coverage of the area that is sprayed.
All buildings and buses are sprayed once weekly, the mist is very effective in treating touch point areas, door handles, locker handles etc.
Thank you to our custodial staff for coming in on the weekends to spray the buildings!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 419-823-4381 ext. 3156 or evasher@otsegoknights.org

Titus supervised cheerleading at Otsego from 1965-1968, and was the girls’ volleyball, basketball, and track coach for the majority of her career at Otsego. Ann was the guiding light that lead to official girls’ sports at Otsego. Prior to the formation of Otsego Girls Varsity Athletics, Ann organized intramural teams to give girls an opportunity to participate in school athletics. Under her direction, Otsego hosted the first Suburban Lakes League Volleyball Tournament in 1973. Ann also lead the Otsego Girls Basketball Team to the district finals in the 1980-81 season, marking the first time the Lady Knights advanced in post-season play. Ann Titus is honored for building a foundation for girls’ sports, not only at Otsego, but in surrounding schools as well.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Wood County at 419-352-0626 or info@namiwoodcounty.org
Thirty million Americans suffer from eating disorders, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. Anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorders claim at least one life every sixty-two minutes. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Wood County is offering a free education night on these disorders February 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Way Public Library in Perrysburg. Kiersten Basilius of the River Centre Clinic will discuss these disorders and the services her clinic provides. Special guest panelists will also share their personal stories of illness and recovery.
The National Institute of Mental Health describes those suffering from eating disorders as “focusing too much on their weight, body shape, and food, leading to dangerous eating behaviors.” Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness (CDC.) Though men and women have suffered from them for centuries, psychiatry is still learning how best to respond to them. However, more treatments and treatment centers are available than ever before. The February 8 education night will cover signs and symptoms of eating disorders as well as the latest therapies, plus reflections on recovery from survivors.
Support from the Wood County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board helps make this program possible. NAMI Wood County has provided information, advocacy, and support for local families affected by all kinds of mental illness since 1987. For more information on this and other NAMI Wood County programs, contact NAMI WC at 419-352-0626 or info@namiwoodcounty.org
