MONDAY MESSAGE
WLWV Student Services 2-4-2019 We've Got This!
The Hard (And Amazing) Work of Creating Inclusive Cultures
With the stage set with these areas of background knowledge, attendees then moved into Circles, where these parents and community members followed protocols similar to those that our students experience frequently in their classrooms. Everyone one's voice was heard. Many successes where shared, and some folks shared concerns or times when they worry about what their child is experiencing. The respectful exchange of ideas, and the validation of the different experiences in the room was inspiring.
This work is messy, and allowing for this sort of courageous dialogue, with clear structures so no parents or students felt blamed or unheard, is a critical part of creating a real community, and continuing to get better at our work.

Inclusive and Equitable Classrooms: Teaching Social Emotional Skills
This workshop series continues to be an incredibly valuable professional learning time. One primary school teacher sent the presenters this:
"Thank YOU for a really thought provoking class yesterday. I appreciate the time your team allowed for participants to plan for implementation of the ideas and strategies that you shared. In my mind, a class where I feel like I have a take away that I can apply the very next day (or week) in my classroom is the best kind of class. Yesterday's session definitely hit the mark."
