MAP Test Scores
Dear Park Hill South Parents and Guardians,
Park Hill recently received the results of the Missouri Assessment Program’s (MAP) Grade Level Assessments (GLA) administered last May. The GLA tests are state-mandated tests of communication arts (reading and writing) and mathematics that are given in grades 3 through 8. Students in grades 5 and 8 also take the science assessment. The MAP tests require students to apply knowledge to solve new problems and to explain and justify their answers. In 2017, the MAP test assessed the Missouri Learning Standards and was administered completely online.
The MAP student report that you will receive has a graph that shows your child’s performance level. MAP student report that you will receive has a graph that shows your child’s performance level. MAP student performance is scored using four achievement levels:
Advanced
Proficient
Basic
Below Basic
Your child’s achievement level is represented by a chart in the middle of the report. Within the chart, you will find your child’s Scale Score on the MAP that was used to determine his or her achievement level. You can read the achievement description beside the color chart to determine the skills that are indicated by each of the achievement levels. Below the chart gives you an explanation as to what the child’s level of achievement means for this particular assessment and his/her performance relative to the standard in topic areas (i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening, etc.).
Please keep in mind that this test is only one piece of information that your child’s teacher looks at to determine how your child is performing. Because there is error in testing, these scores may in some cases seem slightly high or low. If you have questions about how your child is doing in school, please contact your child’s teachers.
If you have questions about your child’s scores or need further information about the MAP test, please call your student’s counselor.
