Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please note, this presentation will be available in Spanish.

The overall purpose of the evening is to introduce incoming students to the educational program at VHHS and to assist families with the freshman enrollment process. Counselors, department chairs, teachers and administration will be available to answer questions as you prepare for your student’s high school experience.
Eighth grade students are encouraged to attend the evening’s activities to meet some of our students, teachers and coaches. The orientation offers us a chance to share the many opportunities that will be available to you at VHHS. Cougar spirit items will be available to purchase at our online school store.
Parking will be available in the school’s west and east parking lots. Additional parking will be available in the BD corporate lot west of VHHS on Lakeview Parkway. Entrances on both sides of the school will be open.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, January 19th.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Guillaume, Ed.D.
Principal
Results from the 2022 Preliminary SAT 8/9 (PSAT 8/9) are now available at studentscores.collegeboard.org. Please have your student create an account with their personal (not school) email address. We highly encourage students to use non-school emails and create a system to remember their password. We do not recommend using a school email (that will be terminated after 8th grade or high school graduation) or a parent email. Staff at VHHS cannot reset or look up College Board account information for students.
An individualized student access code was listed in the email sent by Dr. Young and it is specific to your student. As a reminder, this account will be your student's CollegeBoard account for all of their CollegeBoard tests, including PSAT, SAT and AP, so it is important to keep this account login information saved.
The College Board has partnered with Khan Academy to create free online individualized test prep. In order to take advantage of this, students need to create a Khan Academy account by going to satpractice.org. Through your Khan Academy account, you can link all of your SAT testing scores. This will create an individualized test prep program where your student can begin practicing to enhance their skills for future exams.
If you have any questions regarding the PSAT 8/9 score report, please feel free to contact Dr. Young at (847) 932-2214 or at andrew.young@d128.org.

THE FRESHMAN COURSE SELECTION PROCESS
The course selection process will be explained in detail at 8th Grade Orientation. Orientation will be recorded and shared with families who cannot attend. Request forms and individual course recommendations will be mailed on January 24, 2023 to your student's home address. This mailing could take up to 5-7 business days to arrive. Course request forms are due back to VHHS by February 10th.
VHHS Academic Department Chairs are responsible for handling course recommendations for all incoming freshmen. They use information from the MAP tests (taken in September), PSAT 8/9 scores, local placement tests (language), family input, and eighth grade teacher recommendations to find the best course for each student. Should you have questions regarding the course recommendations please contact the respective VHHS department chair at VHHS before February 10th.
